LEAD STORY: Ole Miss Holds Off LSU in Top-10 Showdown at Vaught-Hemingway
OXFORD, Miss. — No. 8 Ole Miss opened SEC play with its biggest statement of the young season, knocking off No. 7 LSU 32-24 Saturday night in front of a record crowd at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The win pushes the Rebels to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, and it extends their home winning streak to 14 games.
The Rebels seized control early. LSU punted on each of its first three drives, and Ole Miss converted that field position into a 17-point lead. The Tigers clawed back with a touchdown late in the first half, but Ole Miss answered with another scoring drive to open the second half and put LSU in a deep hole. Quarterback Sam Leavitt then led the Tigers all the way back to tie the game, aided by a Ja'Keem Jackson interception and a defense that repeatedly pushed the Rebels behind the chains.
That's when Trinidad Chambliss took over. With about six minutes remaining, the Ole Miss quarterback sold a read-option fake and ran untouched into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown, and the Rebels tacked on a two-point conversion to set the final margin. LSU's head coach, in his first trip back to Oxford since leaving the Ole Miss program nine months ago, called Chambliss "the hardest player to play against in America" afterward. LSU falls to 2-1 and hosts Texas A&M next Saturday, while Ole Miss travels to Florida.

No. 16 Tennessee volleyball topples No. 9 Penn State. The Lady Vols posted their biggest win of the season Sunday afternoon, beating the Nittany Lions on the road in four sets (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20) in University Park, Pa.
Mississippi State women's golf wins the Mason Rudolph Championship. The Bulldogs finished the three-day event at 2-under par, edging Arizona State and Florida by a single stroke for their first team title since the 2024 SEC Championship. Florida's Paula Francisco claimed her third career individual victory at 6-under, while teammate Katelyn Huber recorded her second straight runner-up finish to open the season.
Alabama women's golf defends the Lady Paladin Invitational. The Crimson Tide opened its season by capturing the team title for the second consecutive year.
SEC tennis players advance at ITA All-American Championships. Sophomore Mariano Dedura-Palomero won his singles prequalifying match Saturday in Tulsa, Okla., and junior Andrew Delgado moved through pre-qualifying into the qualifying phase of singles at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
LSU women's golf is underway at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, the Tigers' second event of the fall.
