LEAD STORY: Tiger Style's Defining Tenure Draws to a Close
Tiger Style's most consequential chapter is officially winding down. Missouri wrestling's head coach announced Wednesday that the 2026-27 campaign will be his final season leading the Tigers — the conclusion of a 29-year run that elevated the program from obscurity to national contention.
Hired in May 1998, the departing head coach finishes with a 354-130-3 career record and a résumé few college wrestling coaches can match. Missouri claimed 12 consecutive conference team championships from 2012-23, earned two NCAA team trophies — including a third-place finish in 2007 and a fourth-place finish in 2015 — and produced 72 All-Americans, 66 conference champions, and 10 individual NCAA champions during his tenure.
The program's development pipeline has delivered wrestlers who've succeeded at the sport's highest levels, including Olympic medalist J'den Cox and two-time NCAA champion Keegan O'Toole. The coaching transition is already mapped: the current associate head coach — an eight-year program veteran, five-time associate head coach, and former NCAA champion — has been named the incoming head coach, ensuring the culture Tiger Style built remains intact. Missouri opened the 2026-27 season at the Missouri Duals on Monday, and the outgoing coach made clear that championship ambitions haven't faded heading into his farewell run. "I'm grateful that I can leave this program in a position of strength," he said Wednesday. "We have outstanding coaches, an incredible staff and a talented young team."
