Matchup Overview
Two of the SEC's three remaining unbeaten conference teams meet Thursday, Oct. 8, at Bryant-Denny Stadium. No. 2 Georgia (5-0, 3-0 SEC) travels to Tuscaloosa to face No. 7 Alabama (5-0, 3-0 SEC). The loser falls out of the unbeaten ranks. The winner takes early control of the SEC race and gains a résumé win that will matter in every playoff conversation for the rest of the season.
The weeknight setting adds to the occasion. Television details are still to be announced, but this is clearly the marquee game of the SEC's October slate. Each team arrives with a clear offensive identity.
The last meeting went Georgia's way, 28-7, on Dec. 5, 2025. Alabama gave up just 28 points that night but managed only 7 of its own. This season the Crimson Tide carry a more productive group of top offensive contributors into the game.
Keys to the Game
Georgia Bulldogs
- Keep the load spread out. Georgia's top three contributors work as a group. Gunner Stockton averages 209.8 yards per game, Drew Miller adds 152.3 and Tyriq Green chips in 64.5. That's 426.6 yards per game from the trio. When the Bulldogs reach that level of balance, defenses can't load up to stop one player.
- Get Drew Miller going early. Miller's 152.3 yards per game is the biggest second-option output of anyone on either sideline. That's the clearest place Georgia can gain an edge. If Miller reaches his average, Stockton faces less pressure to keep pace with Alabama's top producer by himself.
- Shorten Keelon Russell's night. Long Georgia possessions mean fewer chances for Alabama's most productive player.
- Let Keelon Russell set the tempo. Russell averages 281.4 yards per game, the highest mark of any player in this matchup. Alabama's offense runs through him. Matching or beating his average would put the Crimson Tide in a strong position at home.
- Get more from Alex Asparuhov. Asparuhov averages 107.6 yards per game, a dependable second option. Even so, Georgia's Miller produces 44.7 more yards per game in that role. If Asparuhov can close that gap, Alabama's overall output advantage grows.
- Make Lotzeir Brooks count. Brooks averages 69.5 yards per game. Turning his touches into scoring drives would help Alabama avoid a repeat of last year's 7-point output.
Key Matchups
1. Keelon Russell vs. Gunner Stockton. This is the biggest individual production gap in the game. Russell's 281.4 yards per game is 71.6 more than Stockton's 209.8. Georgia doesn't need Stockton to match Russell yard for yard. The Bulldogs need him to stay efficient enough that the gap doesn't decide the game.
2. Drew Miller vs. Alex Asparuhov. Here the advantage swings to Georgia. Miller's 152.3 yards per game outpaces Asparuhov's 107.6 by 44.7. This is the Bulldogs' best chance to offset Russell's production, and Alabama's defense will need a plan for Miller.
3. Tyriq Green vs. Lotzeir Brooks. The third options are nearly even. Brooks averages 69.5 yards per game and Green averages 64.5, a 5.0-yard difference. In a game between two evenly matched unbeaten teams, whichever of them makes a bigger play could swing a key possession.
4. Top-three totals. Alabama's leading trio of Russell, Asparuhov and Brooks combines for 458.5 yards per game. Georgia's trio of Stockton, Miller and Green combines for 426.6. Alabama holds a 31.9-yard edge, which is small enough to disappear over one or two drives. Georgia's production is spread more evenly, while Alabama's leans heavily on Russell.
Players to Watch
Georgia: Drew Miller (152.3 yards per game) Miller is the matchup piece that could tip this game toward Georgia. No other second option in this game comes close to his output. If he reaches or tops his average in Tuscaloosa, Georgia has a path to cancel out Alabama's edge at the top.
Alabama: Keelon Russell (281.4 yards per game) Russell is the most productive player on the field. His average alone accounts for more than 61 percent of Alabama's top-three output. Georgia's defensive plan has to start with him, and Alabama's chances depend on how much he can produce.
Prediction
The numbers point to a close game. Alabama has the best individual producer in Russell (281.4 yards per game), a slight edge in top-three output (458.5 to 426.6) and a home crowd at Bryant-Denny. Georgia has the clearest positional advantage in Miller (152.3) over Asparuhov (107.6), plus a balanced attack built around Stockton (209.8).
The deciding question is whether Georgia's balance can absorb Russell's production. Russell is likely to get his yards. If Georgia holds him near his average instead of letting him take over, and Miller wins his matchup, the Bulldogs can stay level. Playing at home, Alabama gets a slight lean, but Georgia's depth keeps this a one-score game.
Prediction: Alabama 27, Georgia 24
