Brian Williams is a traits-heavy outside wide receiver with a tantalizing combination of height, length, and raw athleticism. While his on-field production is still developing and he is considered a raw prospect, his physical upside and flashes of suddenness make him a high-ceiling prospect for the Power Five level.

Physical Profile

Standing at an impressive 6-foot-4 and weighing around 190-200 pounds, Williams possesses an ideal lanky frame for an outside receiver. His multi-sport background in track and field, where he was a state qualifier in the high jump, is evident in his explosive athleticism. While he needs to add bulk to his frame to handle the physicality of college football, his height and leaping ability create a significant mismatch for smaller defensive backs, particularly in the red zone.

Play Style

On film, Williams operates primarily as an outside receiver who can stretch the field vertically. His best plays come from using his size and leaping ability to win on deep balls and in jump-ball situations. He shows a good ability to sink his hips and snap out of breaks, though his route tree is currently limited. His movements are described as sudden, suggesting that as his technique improves, he could become a much more refined route runner. Currently, he relies more on his natural athletic gifts than on nuanced receiver play.

Strengths

  • Excellent size and length, creating a large catch radius and making him a viable target on contested throws.
  • Displays good initial burst off the line of scrimmage and has the quick feet to beat man coverage with sharp releases.
  • Shows flashes of being very sudden and explosive, particularly with the ball in his hands, indicating significant upside as he refines his technique.
  • A multi-sport athlete with verified track and field results (11.29 in 100m, 6'5.5" in high jump) which points to untapped athletic potential.

Areas to Improve

  • Overall polish and route running are still a work in progress; he is described as a 'very raw prospect'.
  • Needs to increase on-field production to match his physical traits; his junior season stats were modest (23 catches for 359 yards and 5 TDs).
  • Must add functional strength to his frame to deal with physical cornerbacks at the line of scrimmage and at the catch point.
  • Can improve his physicality during routes and after the catch to maximize his size advantage.

College Projection

Williams projects as a multi-year contributor at the Power Four level with the potential to develop into a starting outside receiver. His initial impact will likely be situational, particularly in red-zone packages where his height is a major asset. His development will be key, but given his raw tools, he could see significant playing time by his second or third year in a collegiate program as he adds strength and refines his route-running.

Best Fit

An offensive scheme that utilizes big-bodied receivers on the outside and is willing to be patient with his development would be the best fit for Williams. A team with a strong wide receiver coach who can refine his raw talent and expand his route tree would be ideal. The vertical passing game and schemes that create one-on-one matchups on the perimeter will allow him to best leverage his physical advantages.
