Kentucky Basketball Overhauls Roster After Disappointing Season
Following a 2025-26 season that fell short of expectations, Kentucky Basketball is undergoing a significant transformation. After a 22-14 campaign ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Wildcats have seen massive roster turnover, with 11 players departing from last year's squad. In response, the program has aggressively utilized the transfer portal to assemble a new-look team for the upcoming season.
The incoming transfer class is highlighted by several highly-touted players, according to the final 2026 transfer portal rankings from 247 Sports. Former Washington point guard Zoom Diallo is the highest-rated addition, ranked as the No. 27 overall transfer nationally. The four-star guard is expected to provide a major boost to the backcourt. He's joined by former Furman guard Alex Wilkins, another four-star transfer who checks in at No. 42 and offers experienced scoring. In the frontcourt, Kentucky added much-needed size with 6-foot-11 center Franck Kepnang, a four-star transfer from Washington ranked No. 150 overall. The class is rounded out by former James Madison forward Justin McBride (No. 216) and former Washington State guard Jerone Morton (No. 313).
With a nearly brand-new roster, the pressure is on for the Wildcats to bounce back and return to the national championship conversation in what is considered a critical third season for the current coaching staff.
QUICK HITS
- Mizzou Women's Golf Punches Ticket to Nationals: For the first time since 2005, the Missouri Tigers women's golf team is heading to the NCAA Championships. The team secured its spot by finishing fifth at the Stanford Regional. It marks a remarkable turnaround for a program that was ranked 120th nationally just four years ago and will now compete for a national title in Carlsbad, California, from May 22-27.
- Kentucky Baseball Makes Risky Bet: Firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble, Kentucky Baseball canceled its midweek game against Northern Kentucky, a move drawing scrutiny. The program cited travel and recovery needs ahead of a critical weekend series against Arkansas, but the decision has been viewed by some as an attempt to protect its RPI. The Division I Baseball Oversight Committee issued a memo warning that canceling games for strategic reasons could negatively impact a team's evaluation by the selection committee. The Wildcats' postseason hopes now hinge heavily on their performance against the Razorbacks.
- Top-15 SEC Baseball Clashes: The final weekend of the regular season features major matchups with postseason implications. Mississippi State travels to College Station for a top-15 series against Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Missouri faces a tough road test against No. 6 Texas in Austin to close out its conference schedule.
- SEC Outdoor Championships Begin: The 2026 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships get underway today in Auburn, Alabama. The event will feature a host of the nation's top-ranked teams, with 11 men's and 11 women's SEC programs ranked in the national top-25. The Georgia women enter the meet ranked No. 1 in the nation, while the Arkansas men hold the top spot on the men's side.
