SEC Teams Battle Across NCAA Women's Golf Regionals

SEC women's golf programs made their presence felt across the country on Monday, opening the first round of NCAA Regional play with strong performances. The No. 19 Ole Miss Rebels surged to the top of the leaderboard at the NCAA Louisville Regional, posting a 6-under 282 to share the lead with Houston after day one. The Rebels are seeking their eighth consecutive postseason appearance and are well-positioned to advance to the NCAA Championships.

Elsewhere, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns are in second place at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional, finishing the opening round at 1-under par. The Longhorns are just behind host North Carolina as they fight for a spot in the national championship. In the Waco Regional, the No. 16 Tennessee Lady Vols sit in fourth place after shooting a 2-over 282. All-SEC Second Team honoree Kyra Van Kan is tied for the individual lead after firing an impressive 4-under 66. Her seven birdies were the most by any golfer in the field on Monday.

Other SEC competitors are also in the mix. The No. 31 Missouri Tigers are tied for sixth at the Stanford Regional after carding a 6-over 290. At the Tallahassee Regional, Alabama's Natachanok Tunwannarux is competing as an individual and is tied for 12th place after shooting a 1-under 71. The top five teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California.

  • Mizzou's Ward Earns Second SEC Freshman Honor: Missouri third baseman Blaize Ward was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. Ward was instrumental in the Tigers' series win over Vanderbilt, hitting .462 (6-for-13) with four RBI. On the season, he leads Missouri with a .353 batting average in conference play and is second on the team with 30 hits against SEC opponents. The Tigers face a tough road test this week, traveling to Austin for a three-game series against No. 4 Texas to close out the regular season.

The No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers will host Belmont for their final regular-season home game on Tuesday. The Vols have won 11 straight against the Bruins. Meanwhile, No. 4 Auburn travels to face No. 24 Jacksonville State on Tuesday evening.
