The 2026 regular season is here, and before a single conference snap is played, the SEC Scouts formula has already delivered a statement: Ole Miss, not Georgia, not Texas, sits at No. 1 in our Week 1 power rankings.
Every team enters the week at 0-0, so these rankings lean on the components that carry over — recent form, quality results, and AP poll positioning. The Rebels' 26.5 power score leads the conference, built on a 39-34 road win over Georgia in their most recent outing and a No. 3 AP ranking, the highest in the league. Texas sits one point back at 25.5, riding the SEC's best recent form at 4-1 over its last five.
The most interesting tension in this week's board is between the poll and the formula. The AP has South Carolina at No. 11 and Texas A&M at No. 8; our numbers slot them 12th and 6th, respectively, because recent form matters here and both come in at losing marks over their last five. Meanwhile, unranked Kentucky checks in ahead of AP No. 13 Florida on the strength of a 3-2 recent stretch. The season will settle these arguments quickly.
The Rankings

2. Texas (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 25.5 Nobody in the conference is in better form than the Longhorns, who arrive at 4-1 over their last five, capped by a 27-17 win over Texas A&M. The AP has them at No. 12, but the formula sees a team trending sharply upward. The gap between poll perception and recent results makes Texas the most undervalued team on this board.
3. Georgia (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 24.5 The Bulldogs sit at No. 6 in the AP poll and went 3-2 over their last five, but the 39-34 home loss to Ole Miss last time out is why they trail the Rebels here. A five-point defeat to the No. 1 team on this board is hardly a collapse. Georgia has the profile to reclaim the top spot fast.
4. Vanderbilt (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 22.5 Believe it. The Commodores enter at No. 15 in the AP poll after closing their last stretch with a 45-24 dismantling of Tennessee on the road — a 21-point margin in Knoxville. At 3-2 over their last five with that kind of finishing kick, Vanderbilt earns the tiebreaker over Oklahoma at 22.5.
5. Oklahoma (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 22.5 The Sooners match Vanderbilt's power score and 3-2 recent form, but their most recent result — a 34-24 home loss to Alabama — cuts the other way. The AP has them at No. 13, and the formula agrees this is a top-third team with something to prove immediately.
6. Texas A&M (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 21.5 The Aggies own the SEC's second-best AP ranking at No. 8, but the formula is less convinced: 2-3 over the last five, most recently a 27-17 loss at Texas. The 10% AP bonus keeps them in the top half. The other 90% of the formula wants to see results.
7. Alabama (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 21.5 The Crimson Tide are tied with Texas A&M at 21.5 but enter on a better note, having won their most recent game 34-24 at Oklahoma — a double-digit road win over an AP No. 13 team. The 2-3 mark over the last five is the anchor. Win early and this ranking climbs in a hurry.
8. Auburn (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 The Tigers lead the four-team logjam at 17.5, entering at No. 22 in the AP poll with a 2-3 recent mark. Their last time out was a 27-20 home loss to Alabama — competitive, but a loss all the same. Auburn's spot atop this tier is fragile.
9. LSU (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 The Tigers check in at AP No. 20 and 2-3 over their last five, with a 17-13 road loss at Oklahoma as their most recent result. A four-point defeat in Norman is a defensible loss. LSU and Auburn are separated by almost nothing.
10. Tennessee (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 The Volunteers hold an AP No. 18 ranking, but the last image anyone has of them is a 45-24 home loss to Vanderbilt. That 21-point margin, against the team now sitting fourth on this board, is why Tennessee sits behind Auburn and LSU despite an identical power score.
11. Missouri (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 The Tigers are the only team in the 17.5 tier that won its most recent game, a 31-17 road victory at Arkansas. At AP No. 25 with a 2-3 recent mark, Missouri is quietly positioned to jump this entire group with a strong opening stretch.
12. South Carolina (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 16.5 Here is the board's biggest disconnect: the AP poll has the Gamecocks at No. 11, but they enter at 1-4 over their last five, most recently a gut-punch 31-30 loss at Texas A&M. One point separated them from a quality road win. The formula doesn't grade on heartbreak.
13. Kentucky (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 16.5 The Wildcats are unranked, yet their 3-2 recent form is better than that of several AP-ranked teams below and around them on this list. The problem: their most recent result was a 45-17 loss at Vanderbilt. That 28-point margin keeps Kentucky from climbing higher despite the winning stretch.
14. Florida (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 16.5 The AP has the Gators at No. 13; the formula sees 1-4 over the last five and a 31-11 home loss to Tennessee as the final data point. That is a 20-point defeat in the Swamp. No team on this board has a wider gap between poll standing and power score.
15. Arkansas (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 7.5 The Razorbacks arrive on an 0-5 slide, capped by a 31-17 home loss to Missouri. The 7.5 power score reflects a team that hasn't won in its last five tries. The clean slate of a new season is the best thing Arkansas has going.
16. Mississippi State (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 7.5 The Bulldogs share the basement power score at 7.5, entering unranked at 0-2 over their most recent stretch. With no last-game result on file, there's little in the data to argue them past Arkansas. Week 1 is a genuine reset opportunity.
Stock Up
Vanderbilt — A 45-24 road win over Tennessee, a 3-2 recent mark, an AP No. 15 ranking, and a No. 4 slot on this board ahead of Oklahoma and Texas A&M. The data says the Commodores are a legitimate top-tier SEC team until proven otherwise.
Texas — The conference's only 4-1 team over the last five, finishing with a 27-17 win over Texas A&M. The formula has the Longhorns eight spots higher than their AP No. 12 suggests relative to the league — No. 2 overall, one point behind Ole Miss.
Kentucky — Unranked, but 3-2 in recent form while AP No. 11 South Carolina and AP No. 13 Florida both sit at 1-4. The Wildcats are the rare team the poll may be underrating rather than overrating.
Stock Down
South Carolina — An AP No. 11 ranking paired with a 1-4 recent stretch and a one-point loss at Texas A&M lands the Gamecocks 12th here. The formula's message is blunt: the poll position is a projection the recent results don't support.
Florida — At 1-4 over the last five with a 31-11 home loss to Tennessee as the parting image, the Gators sit 14th despite an AP No. 13 ranking. Only Arkansas and Mississippi State score lower.
Arkansas — An 0-5 recent slide and a 7.5 power score, less than half of the 13th-place team's total. The Razorbacks have the furthest to climb of anyone entering the season with a pulse in the AP conversation — which, at unranked, they currently don't have.
Games to Watch
With every team at 0-0, the opening weeks will do the sorting the formula can't. The board is riddled with ties — Vanderbilt and Oklahoma at 22.5, Alabama and Texas A&M at 21.5, and a four-team pileup at 17.5 with Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, and Missouri — and the first results will break every one of them.
Watch three things as the schedule unfolds. First, whether South Carolina and Florida can play up to their AP rankings and force the formula to catch up, or whether their 1-4 recent stretches prove predictive. Second, whether Vanderbilt's No. 4 slot survives contact with the season — a 45-24 road win over Tennessee earned it, and early results will tell us if it was a peak or a baseline. Third, the top of the board: Ole Miss leads Texas by a single point, 26.5 to 25.5, and Georgia lurks a point behind that. One quality win in Week 1 reshuffles the entire top three.
