The 2026 SEC football regular season is here, and the SEC Scouts formula has spoken: Ole Miss opens the year at the top of our power rankings. The Rebels' 26.5 power score leads all 16 teams, built on the strength of a 39-34 road win over Georgia in their most recent outing — the kind of quality result our formula weighs heavily, and one that carries even more juice given Ole Miss sits at No. 3 in the AP Poll, the highest mark in the conference.
Every team enters Week 1 at 0-0, which means recent form, AP position, and head-to-head results from each team's last outing are doing the sorting work right now. That produces some fascinating gaps between poll perception and our numbers. South Carolina carries a top-11 AP ranking into the season but sits 12th in our rankings on the back of a 1-4 stretch over its last five. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, checks in at No. 4 — above Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Alabama — after hammering Tennessee 45-24 on the road.
With zero conference games played, expect volatility. The formula's win percentage and point differential components are dormant until results start landing, so the first few weeks of the regular season will reshuffle this list quickly. Here's where all 16 teams stand entering Week 1.
The Rankings
1. Ole Miss (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 26.5 The Rebels top the board with the SEC's best AP ranking at No. 3 and the conference's signature recent result: a 39-34 win at Georgia. A 3-2 mark over the last five is merely solid, but beating the Bulldogs in Athens is the kind of quality win that separates contenders from the pack in our formula.
2. Texas (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 25.5 Texas owns the best recent form in the conference at 4-1 over its last five, capped by a 27-17 win over Texas A&M. The AP Poll has the Longhorns at No. 12 — four spots below the Aggies they just beat — but our formula rewards results over reputation, and Texas has the results.
3. Georgia (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 24.5 The Bulldogs sit No. 6 in the AP Poll despite dropping their last outing, 39-34 to Ole Miss at home. A 3-2 stretch over the last five keeps Georgia comfortably in the top tier, and a 24.5 power score says the gap between the Bulldogs and the top spot is one good win from closing.
4. Vanderbilt (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 22.5 Vanderbilt at No. 4 is the headline of these rankings. The Commodores walked into Tennessee and won 45-24, and they enter the season ranked No. 15 in the AP Poll. The 21-point road margin against a ranked rival is exactly the kind of result the formula's form component loves.
5. Oklahoma (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 22.5 The Sooners share a 22.5 power score with Vanderbilt but lose the tiebreak after falling 34-24 to Alabama in their most recent game. Still, a 3-2 last-five mark and a No. 13 AP ranking keep Oklahoma firmly in the top third of the conference.
6. Texas A&M (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 21.5 The AP Poll loves the Aggies at No. 8 — the third-highest ranking in the SEC — but the formula is more skeptical. Texas A&M is 2-3 over its last five and dropped its most recent outing 27-17 at Texas. The poll bonus is doing heavy lifting here.
7. Alabama (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 21.5 Alabama enters at No. 9 in the AP Poll with a 2-3 mark over its last five, but the Crimson Tide closed on a high note with a 34-24 win at Oklahoma. That road win over a ranked opponent is why Alabama sits even with Texas A&M on power score despite the uneven recent stretch.
8. Auburn (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 Auburn leads a logjam of four teams at 17.5. The Tigers are 2-3 over their last five and fell 27-20 to Alabama in their most recent game, but a No. 22 AP ranking gives them the edge over the rest of this tier.
9. LSU (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 LSU checks in at No. 20 in the AP Poll with a 2-3 recent record, most recently a 17-13 loss at Oklahoma. The margin was slim, but losses are losses in this formula, and the Tigers need early wins to climb out of the middle tier.
10. Tennessee (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 The Volunteers are ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll, but the 45-24 home loss to Vanderbilt in their most recent outing is a heavy anchor. At 2-3 over the last five, Tennessee has ground to make up on both the field and the scoreboard.
11. Missouri (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 17.5 Missouri is the only team in the 17.5 tier that won its most recent game, taking down Arkansas 31-17 on the road. A No. 25 AP ranking is the lowest among ranked SEC teams, which keeps the Tigers at the bottom of this group despite the positive momentum.
12. South Carolina (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 16.5 Here's the widest gap between poll and formula in the conference: the Gamecocks are No. 11 in the AP Poll but just 1-4 over their last five, including a gut-punch 31-30 loss at Texas A&M. One of those numbers is wrong, and the regular season will tell us which.
13. Kentucky (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 16.5 Kentucky's 3-2 last-five record is better than half the teams ranked above it, but the Wildcats are unranked and their most recent result was a 45-17 blowout loss at Vanderbilt. Without an AP bonus, Kentucky needs wins to move.
14. Florida (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 16.5 The Gators carry a No. 13 AP ranking that the formula flatly disputes. Florida is 1-4 over its last five and lost its most recent game 31-11 to Tennessee. That 20-point margin against a team ranked 10th in these power rankings is hard to explain away.
15. Arkansas (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 7.5 The Razorbacks are 0-5 over their last five, the worst stretch in the conference, capped by a 31-17 home loss to Missouri. Unranked and winless in recent memory, Arkansas has nowhere to go but up — and the formula agrees, barely.
16. Mississippi State (0-0, 0-0 SEC) — Power Score: 7.5 Mississippi State shares the basement power score at 7.5 with an 0-2 mark in its recent games and no last result on file. The Bulldogs are unranked and start the regular season with everything to prove.
Stock Up
Vanderbilt — A 45-24 road demolition of Tennessee, a 3-2 recent stretch, and a No. 15 AP ranking add up to a No. 4 power ranking that would have been unthinkable in most seasons. The Commodores enter Week 1 with the conference's most convincing recent win by margin.
Texas — The conference's best last-five record at 4-1, plus a 27-17 head-to-head win over No. 8 Texas A&M, puts the Longhorns at No. 2 despite a modest No. 12 AP ranking. The formula sees a team the poll is underrating.
Missouri — A 31-17 road win over Arkansas and a No. 25 AP ranking have the Tigers trending the right direction entering the regular season. They're the only team in the crowded 17.5 tier coming off a win.
Stock Down
South Carolina — No. 11 in the AP Poll, No. 12 in our rankings, and 1-4 over the last five with a one-point loss at Texas A&M as the most recent data point. The poll bonus is the only thing keeping the Gamecocks out of the bottom four.
Florida — A 1-4 recent stretch and a 31-11 loss to Tennessee land the Gators at No. 14 despite a top-15 AP ranking. The 16.5 power score reflects a team whose results haven't matched its billing.
Arkansas — An 0-5 last-five record is the worst in the SEC, and the 31-17 loss to Missouri dropped the Razorbacks to a 7.5 power score. Only Mississippi State's incomplete recent resume keeps Arkansas out of sole possession of last place.
What to Watch in Week 1
With every team at 0-0, the first set of regular-season results will activate the win percentage and point differential components of the formula — the two categories worth a combined 40% that are currently sitting empty. The teams with the most to gain are the ones where poll and power score disagree: South Carolina and Florida can validate their top-13 AP rankings with strong openers, while Texas and Vanderbilt can force the poll to catch up to the formula. At the bottom, Arkansas and Mississippi State are separated from the pack by 9 full power-score points — any Week 1 win would start closing that gap immediately. And keep an eye on the 17.5 logjam: Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, and Missouri are separated by nothing but tiebreaks, so the first weekend of results will scatter that tier in a hurry.
