Lead Story: Eligibility Rulings Reshape Rosters Two Weeks Before Kickoff
Two competing court decisions moved rosters across college athletics on Friday, and the SEC sits on both sides of the ledger. The 10th Circuit granted the NCAA's request for a stay in Wisne v. NCAA, putting Judge Sweeney's nationwide injunction on hold pending appeal. The practical effect: qualifying Class of 2022 athletes lose the federal protection that would have granted them a fifth season. Louisville absorbed the hit in real time — guard Seth Trimble committed to the Cardinals on Aug. 12, was officially announced as signed Friday, and was ruled ineligible shortly after. Trimble spent four seasons at North Carolina and averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season while earning honorable mention All-ACC honors.
The football fallout runs through South Bend and Baton Rouge. Per ESPN, Notre Dame has determined it is too late to add players from the 2022 recruiting class who could have become eligible this fall — a group that includes Junior Tuihalamaka, who has committed to LSU. That leaves the Tigers holding a commitment whose availability is now tied to appellate timelines rather than practice reps.
A separate legal track is pulling in the opposite direction. A temporary restraining order granted in Louisiana covers 16 athletes, including running back TJ Harden, who carried the ball for the Seattle Seahawks against the Dallas Cowboys in an Aug. 15 preseason game before being waived two days later. Harden has entered the NCAA transfer portal, and Pete Nakos of On3 reports Kentucky is in the mix alongside Kansas, Baylor and Syracuse. Harden rushed for 325, 827 (eight touchdowns) and 506 yards in three seasons at UCLA, then added 787 yards and nine scores at SMU — 2,445 career rushing yards. Kentucky's backfield has been a need area all offseason: the staff moved Martels Carter Jr. from safety to running back and added JUCO back Ahmir Smith. The Wildcats open Sept. 5 against Youngstown State.

Portal Watch
One SEC addition on the board: Dae'Quan Wright has committed to Ole Miss. The transfer feed did not list a position for Wright, and no additional details accompanied the commitment. Beyond that, the portal story of the day is legal rather than transactional — the Louisiana TRO opened a lane for 16 athletes including Harden, while the 10th Circuit stay closed one for Class of 2022 players nationwide. Expect movement in both directions as programs sort out who is actually available two weeks from opening weekend.
Recruiting Buzz
No new commitments were reported across the league in the last 12 hours. The recruiting board stays quiet as staffs turn their attention to camp evaluations and season prep.

Vanderbilt was 11-1-1 at home last season and 6-1-0 in home Top 25 matchups.
