LEAD STORY: Tigers Stack Hardware After 38-21 Border War Win
Missouri's 38-21 Border War victory over Kansas on Friday night kept paying dividends into the new week. Quarterback Austin Simmons was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after completing 19 of 29 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. Simmons also landed on the Davey O'Brien Great Eight Team of the Week, adding national recognition to the conference honor.
The Missouri defense got its due as well. Daeden Hopkins earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors behind a stat line of 4.5 tackles (1.5 sacks), five quarterback pressures, a pass deflection and a forced fumble. Linebacker Robert Woodyard Jr. supplied the game's two biggest swings — a fumble and an interception forced within three minutes of game time — as the Tigers beat Kansas for a fifth straight time, a first for Missouri in over 80 years, and remained undefeated on the young season.
Missouri wasn't the only SEC program collecting awards Monday. Mississippi State center Canon Boone was named SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week, the league office announced.
