Georgia Bulldogs Crowned SEC Regular-Season Champions
For the first time in 18 years, the University of Georgia baseball team stands alone atop the Southeastern Conference. The fifth-ranked Bulldogs clinched the SEC Regular-Season Championship Saturday night with a commanding 13-8 victory over LSU at Foley Field. This marks the program's eighth conference title and its first since the 2008 season, a year that also saw the Bulldogs advance to the College World Series.
The title-clinching win was powered by an offensive explosion in the second inning, where Georgia plated eight runs to seize control of the game. Michael O'Shaughnessy delivered the key blow with a grand slam, one of his two home runs on the night, finishing with five RBI. The victory improved Georgia's record to 40-11 overall and 20-6 in the SEC, securing the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama.
The achievement is a significant milestone for a program that was picked to finish ninth in the SEC's preseason coaches poll. By winning eight of their nine SEC series so far this season, the Bulldogs have defied expectations and positioned themselves as a top contender for a national title. The series against LSU concludes Sunday before Georgia heads to Hoover with its sights set on more hardware.
