LEAD STORY: Vols Head to Durham for October Exhibition
Tennessee basketball made it official Wednesday afternoon: the Volunteers will travel to Duke for a preseason scrimmage on October 20 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Start time and TV information have not been announced. It marks Tennessee's first appearance inside Cameron Indoor since 1975, and it completes a two-year exchange after last season's version of the event was held in Knoxville.
Duke took that one 83-76, with Cameron Boozer posting 24 points, 23 rebounds and six assists in his college debut. Both rosters will look substantially different in the rematch. Tennessee is integrating Juke Harris, Terrence Hill Jr., Jaylen Haralson and Dai Dai Ames as it shifts toward a more offense-first identity, while Duke works in Wisconsin transfer John Blackwell and freshman guard Deron Rippey Jr.
The scheduling itself is worth noting. Programs may now stage up to three exhibition events before the regular season, and Tennessee has leaned into that allowance aggressively, drawing Gonzaga, Duke and Purdue in recent preseasons rather than padding the calendar with buy games.
