LEXINGTON, Ky. (05/07/2026) — Viviana Martinez delivered a clutch, go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, capping a late rally to lift the Texas Longhorns to a 5-4 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday at John Cropp Stadium.
After Georgia erased an early deficit with a massive fifth-inning offensive burst, Texas battled back to tie the game in the sixth before Martinez provided the decisive blow in the final frame, handing the Bulldogs a tough non-conference loss.
How It Happened
The game began as a pitcher's duel before Texas broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. Leighann Goode ignited the Longhorns' offense with a two-run homer to right field, putting Texas ahead 2-0. With the momentum shifted, Kiersten Roose stepped up and laced an RBI double to left-center, scoring Ray to tie the game at 3-3. Jaydyn Goodwin completed the explosive inning, hitting a two-out single to left that brought Roose home and gave the Georgia Bulldogs a 4-3 lead.
Texas, however, refused to back down. In the top of the sixth, the Longhorns answered immediately. Wells came through again, this time with a two-out single to left field that scored a runner from second to tie the game 4-4, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

After a quiet bottom of the sixth for Georgia, the Longhorns manufactured the game-winning run in their final at-bat. Jaycie Nichols led off the top of the seventh with a single and advanced into scoring position. With the game on the line, Viviana Martinez delivered the biggest hit of the night, singling up the middle to score Nichols and give Texas a 5-4 lead they would not relinquish.

Rachel Wells was a constant threat in the Texas lineup. The Longhorns' designated player finished 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, and two crucial RBIs.
