SEC Morning Report: Kentucky Eyes 2028 Star, Missouri's Bracketology Stock Rises

Kentucky Lays Groundwork for 2028 Recruiting Class

The Kentucky Wildcats are making early moves in the 2028 recruiting class, set to host top-20 overall prospect Kam Mercer for an unofficial visit. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Princeton High School in Cincinnati is expected to be in attendance for the Wildcats' game against Vanderbilt on Saturday, February 28. This will mark Mercer's second trip to Lexington, following a visit in the fall that left a strong impression.

Mercer, ranked as the No. 2 shooting guard in his class by 247Sports, has already attracted significant national attention. He has taken unofficial visits to Ohio State and Louisville and holds offers from a host of high-major programs, including Xavier, Missouri, Cincinnati, and Florida State. The elite prospect sees a strong match with the Wildcats' offensive philosophy.

"I see myself fitting into Kentucky’s system because I love to play fast and space the floor," Mercer told KSR+. "I can defend multiple positions and play multiple spots, which works perfectly in a high-tempo system." By hosting Mercer again, Kentucky continues to build a foundational relationship with one of the premier talents in the 2028 cycle.
