Lead Story: Kentucky's Road Test Hinges on Marcel Reed and DJ Hicks
Kentucky has no time to dwell on Saturday's 45-17 loss to Alabama at Kroger Field. The Wildcats head straight into a night game at Kyle Field against Texas A&M, where the Aggies enter as 16.5-point favorites.
The Kentucky game plan boils down to two problems, according to Tuesday's preview session in Lexington. The first is containing quarterback Marcel Reed, the dual-threat veteran who powers Texas A&M's offense. Reed thrives when plays break down, forcing Kentucky's defensive backs into split-second choices: step up to tackle him and risk getting beaten deep, or stay latched to a receiver and surrender chunk yardage on the ground. Kentucky's staff described Reed as a quarterback who can make every throw and consistently makes the right decision. The Wildcats do have one edge — their defensive coordinator arrived from the Texas A&M staff this offseason and brings intimate knowledge of what the Aggies like to run.
The second problem is defensive tackle DJ Hicks, who Kentucky's staff plainly labeled a "freak." Texas A&M's overload fronts and tight man-match coverage mean quarterback Kenny Minchey has to get the ball out fast, and Kentucky's receivers must win one-on-one matchups — something only Kenny Darby has done consistently this season. The formula for an upset: replicate the defensive effort Kentucky showed for three quarters against Alabama, and get enough offense going to quiet the 12th Man. Also worth noting from Texas A&M's side: Marco Jones (No. 10) was among the Aggies celebrating sacks in last week's 45-17 win over Arizona State at Kyle Field.

Missouri sells out Texas A&M game. Mizzou Athletics announced Tuesday that single-game tickets for the Oct. 10 visit from Texas A&M are gone, with only limited hill tickets remaining. It's a rematch of last season's 38-17 loss to the CFP-bound Aggies. This Saturday's Memorial Stadium 100th Anniversary Game against undefeated Troy is also sold out — the 22nd consecutive sellout in Columbia. Missouri also named Angie Jabir, previously of Stanford, as Deputy Athletics Director for Olympic Sport Leadership and Senior Woman Administrator, effective Oct. 5.
Tigers clean up after the Border War. Missouri's Tuesday night Tiger Talk session focused on fixing two blocked field goals and two fumbles from the Kansas win, ending a 14-game offensive turnover streak the staff called "a bad stat." The defense forced seven three-and-outs against the Jayhawks. Wide receiver Donovan Olugbode described a spring and fall camp of missed connections with quarterback Austin Simmons before the two finally clicked — Olugbode scored on a post route against Kansas after winning at the top of the route against outside leverage. Edge rusher Darris Smith, back from ACL surgery, said he added 30 pounds this offseason and feels stronger and more explosive setting the edge. Per Rock M Nation, Olugbode and Kevin Coleman's receiving corps generated 11 of Missouri's 14 first downs through the air against Kansas — a rare pass-first profile for this offense.
Georgia's Jaden Reddell draws Bowers comparisons. The Bulldogs tight end broke six tackles against Tennessee State on Sept. 5, finishing with two receptions for 38 yards, one carry for 29 yards and a touchdown, per Top Tier Georgia. Georgia is coming off two straight lopsided wins, most recently over Western Kentucky at Sanford Stadium on Sept. 12, and the program is weighing a repeat of the White Out based on how it played with recruits.
Oklahoma volleyball sweeps again. Junior Mikala Young put down a match-high 17 kills as the Sooners swept East Texas A&M (25-22, 25-21, 25-13) Tuesday at McCasland Field House — Oklahoma's second straight home sweep, improving the Sooners to 5-2.
Ole Miss volleyball falls at Memphis. Despite a big night from Jorda Crook, the Rebels dropped a 3-1 road match at Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
