LEAD STORY: The One That Got Away From Kentucky
Two weeks into the season, Kentucky's most glaring roster hole traces back to a single offseason recruitment. Will Stein's staff assembled a top-10 transfer portal class after he took over in Lexington, landing a coveted quarterback and multiple highly ranked offensive linemen — but the Wildcats missed on wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr., who chose Colorado instead. Moore has been exactly the vertical threat Kentucky lacks, hauling in eight receptions for 144 yards through two games, including a touchdown against Weber State on Saturday in Boulder.
The numbers in Kentucky's receiver room tell the story. Kenny Darby leads the group with 8 catches for 119 yards, but the drop-off behind him is steep: Brock Coffman has one 38-yard catch on a screen, Prince Jean has 2 receptions for 27 yards, Nic Anderson 2 for 17, and Ja'Kayden Ferguson one for 2 yards. The production is instead flowing through the middle of the field — tight ends Willie Rodriguez, Mikkel Skinner, and Henry Boyer have combined for 18 receptions and 209 yards. That's real output, but it comes with a cost: Alabama recognized the Wildcats had no outside difference-maker and simply compressed its coverage within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, smothering an offense built on short and intermediate throws.
Stein's system has consistently produced 70-percent completion rates, but without a receiver who can take the top off a defense, opponents have no reason to back off. Unless someone emerges on the perimeter, quarterback Kenny Minchey and the Kentucky offense could face a long season of crowded boxes and shrinking throwing windows.

GAMES TO WATCH
No SEC games are scheduled today, but the week ahead has real stakes:
- Georgia at Arkansas (Saturday): The two-time defending SEC champions open conference play in Fayetteville as 24.5-point favorites at FanDuel. Arkansas limps in off a 43-10 loss at Utah in which the Razorbacks trailed 29-3 at half, allowed 442 yards and a 56% third-down conversion rate, and managed just 61 rushing yards at 2.2 per carry.
