LEAD STORY: Florida Rolls No. 4 Ole Miss, Takes Momentum to Columbia
The biggest result of the SEC weekend came out of Gainesville. No. 21 Florida beat No. 4 Ole Miss 52-28 on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. It was the Rebels' first road game of the season, and the Gators put 52 points on a top-five opponent. Rock M Nation reports the win moved Florida into the AP Top 10 for the first time in a few years, and the Gators are now being talked about as a College Football Playoff contender.
Florida's next test is a road trip to Missouri for the Tigers' 115th Homecoming. Mizzou opened as a slight underdog after losing at Mississippi State on Saturday night. According to Rock M Nation, the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 24-3 in the second and third quarters. They were outscored 28-0 across the first and fourth quarters, which made the final 31-24 in Starkville. Missouri was in control through the middle of the game but got nothing done at the start or the finish.
The winner in Columbia will have a much stronger case in the SEC race. Florida is trying to back up the Ole Miss win, and Missouri needs a home win before its season slips.

Georgia stays perfect. The Bulldogs beat Oklahoma at Sanford Stadium and are unbeaten through four weeks. Chauncey Bowens scored on a first-quarter touchdown dive. According to Dawg Sports, Georgia has covered the spread in all four games. The same outlet pointed to a sluggish third quarter as the one weak spot. Georgia opens as a 24.5-point favorite over Vanderbilt this Saturday. The Commodores start freshman quarterback Jared Curtis, who flipped his commitment from Georgia to Vanderbilt the day before Signing Day.
Kentucky volleyball sweeps No. 7 Texas. The No. 3 Wildcats opened SEC play by beating the Longhorns 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 in Lexington. Morgan Gaerte was out with an injury. Asia Thigpen filled in on the outside next to Brooklyn DeLeye and had 15 kills while hitting .303. Kentucky hosts Auburn on Friday.
Ole Miss volleyball sweeps Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Rebels (7-5, 1-0 SEC) won their SEC opener in three sets at Foster Auditorium. Alabama (8-3, 0-2 SEC) had been unbeaten at home before Sunday. Elsewhere, LSU lost in five sets at Mississippi State after a comeback attempt fell short. Missouri won its SEC opener at the Hearnes Center.
Alabama soccer stays unbeaten in SEC play. No. 7 Alabama beat No. 21 Oklahoma 3-1 at John Crain Field. It was the Crimson Tide's third ranked win of the season and second on the road.
Soccer draws and a skid. Georgia got one shot on frame at LSU and scored with it. Sophomore defender Maddy Herniter's late equalizer earned a 1-1 draw in front of 612 fans in Baton Rouge. Kentucky tied UCF 1-1 for its first conference point. Missouri lost its third straight and is now 0-4 in SEC play and 3-7-1 overall.
Fall tennis and golf. Mississippi State's Gianna Oboniye and Athina Pitta opened the Bulldogs' fall season at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C. Auburn men's tennis has players at the M15 Fayetteville Futures in Arkansas. Ole Miss men's golf plays this week at the Bryan Bros Collegiate, hosted by South Carolina.
