LEAD STORY: Boone Ready to Pilot Kentucky's Retooled Roster
Asia Boone spent her first season in Lexington proving she belongs among the SEC's most dangerous shooters. Now the Kentucky guard is being asked to lead — and she's setting the bar at the Elite Eight.
Boone, a San Diego native who transferred to Kentucky from Liberty after earning 2024 CUSA Freshman of the Year honors, knocked down 96 three-pointers at a 36 percent clip in her debut season with the Wildcats. Another year at that pace would vault her into Kentucky's top five all-time in career threes, ahead of Stacey Reed and A'dia Mathies. She didn't chase that mark alone, either — teammate Amelia Hassett edged her in a season-long shootout with 99 made triples. "When me and Millie started going back and forth… it was a shocker, but it wasn't," Boone said at Media Day. "Because we both had been working hard this whole season."
Coming off a Sweet 16 run, Kentucky reloaded with a headline-grabbing class — McDonald's All-American freshmen Maddyn Greenway, Savvy Swords and Emily McDonald, plus transfers Ayanna Patterson and Me'Arah O'Neal. With few returning veterans, Boone has embraced a leadership role she admits didn't come naturally. Asked for the goal, she didn't hesitate: "Elite 8" — a round the Wildcats haven't reached since back-to-back trips in 2011 and 2012. Off the court, Boone is working toward her pilot's license through Aerovision with over 40 flight hours logged, which might explain why a contested SEC three doesn't rattle her.
