LEAD STORY: Texas Offense Sputters Again in 27-24 Loss to Florida
The Texas Longhorns had every opportunity to get right on Saturday. Instead, they delivered one of their most alarming offensive performances of the 2026 season, falling 27-24 to the Florida Gators at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against a defense that entered the game ranked second-worst in the SEC — a unit that had just surrendered 38 points to South Carolina and 45 to Missouri.
The numbers are damning. Texas managed just 272 total yards — 99 rushing, 173 passing — and only 17 offensive points. After gaining 124 yards in the first quarter, the Longhorns produced 52 in the second, eight in the third, and 88 in the fourth, 62 of which came on a single pass to Emmett Mosley. Arch Manning finished 14-of-20 for 173 yards and a touchdown, but the splits tell the real story: he opened 7-of-7 for 53 yards before the offense unraveled, and he was sacked five times, none in the first quarter. Remove the Mosley explosive, and Manning's yards per attempt after that early stretch drops to 4.8.
The ground game was no better. Highly touted backs Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown combined for fewer than 100 yards, with 56 coming on just two carries — including Brown's 32-yard touchdown. In the second half, the pair combined for four rushes for minus-one yard as Florida controlled the clock with a nearly 14-minute time-of-possession edge; Texas snapped the ball just 19 times over the final 30 minutes. Over the past two meetings with the Gators, Texas has rushed for just 151 yards at 2.7 yards per carry, and the team's yards-per-carry average has declined every year since 2021, from 5.23 to 3.62 at the midpoint of this season.
QUICK HITS
Kentucky answers Oklahoma's bulletin-board material in Norman. The Sooners reportedly taped a photo of Wildcats players inside their team urinals during game week — and Kentucky responded with arguably its best defensive performance of the season. The Wildcats piled up a season-high seven sacks, forced a season-high four turnovers, and intercepted John Mateer three times, matching his career high, while holding Oklahoma to three second-half points. Now 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the SEC, No. 12 Kentucky sits tied for first place in the conference standings.
Tennessee opens as just a 1.5-point favorite at South Carolina. Fresh off a massive win over Alabama at Neyland Stadium that pushed the Volunteers to 6-1 and into the College Football Playoff conversation, Tennessee heads to Williams-Brice Stadium, where it has struggled historically — including the infamous 2022 loss. Per FanDuel Sportsbook, the line reflects real danger: the Gamecocks enter off a bye after a stunning 38-19 road win at Florida in which LaNorris Sellers threw four touchdowns.
Georgia volleyball outlasts LSU in five. Senior Bianna Muoneke poured in a career-high 30 kills — recording her 1,000th career kill as a Bulldog along the way — as Georgia won a 19-25, 25-15, 30-32, 25-19, 15-9 thriller at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU's Jurnee Robinson posted her second 30-kill match of the season in the losing effort.
Florida soccer falls on a last-second goal at Arkansas. Katie Johnston scored her fourth goal of the season, but the Razorbacks rallied with two second-half strikes, including the winner in the final seconds of a 2-1 decision.
Weekend on the courts and links. Florida men's tennis duo Ty Host and Henry Jefferson reached the ITA Southeast Regional doubles final in Atlanta before falling, while seniors Julian Alonso and Maxime Dubouch won regional semifinal matches to clinch berths in the NCAA Singles Championships. In women's golf, Oklahoma — owner of a nation-high three team titles this fall — joins Mississippi State and LSU at The Fin at Freestone Golf Club in Fairfield, Texas, beginning Monday.
PORTAL WATCH
A quiet 12 hours on the transfer front — no new portal entries or commitments to report. With the season at its midpoint, expect movement to stay minimal until the regular season winds down.
RECRUITING BUZZ
No new commitments over the last 12 hours. The fallout from Saturday's results — particularly Tennessee's statement win over Alabama and Kentucky's road takedown of Oklahoma — will be worth monitoring on the trail in the days ahead.
GAMES TO WATCH
No SEC games are scheduled today, but circle next Saturday: No. 12 Kentucky looks to defend its share of first place, and Tennessee visits South Carolina at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN in a game the oddsmakers clearly view as a trap — the Volunteers are laying just 1.5 points before heading into their bye week.
