Lead Story: SEC Owns More Than Half of USA Baseball's 28-Man Roster
USA Baseball finalized its 28-player 2026 Collegiate National Team roster this week, and the SEC's fingerprints are all over it. Fifteen of the 28 selections — more than half the roster — come from SEC programs, the most of any conference in the country. Florida leads all schools nationally with three players on the team, while the Big Ten placed six, the Big 12 four, the ACC two, and the Sun Belt one.
Texas is sending a pair of standouts in right-handed pitcher Luke Harrison and outfielder Anthony Pack Jr., who become the 33rd and 34th Longhorns to earn a spot on the national team. Harrison was dominant across USA Baseball's eight exhibition contests, leading the club with 10 strikeouts while allowing no runs and just two hits over 4 1/3 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .133 average. Pack Jr., the 2026 SEC Freshman of the Year and USA Baseball's 2026 Freshman of the Year, paced the offense in triples, RBI (5), and total bases (10), with his .500 slugging percentage ranking second on the team. Ole Miss sophomore Walker Hooks also made the final cut, per the school's announcement.
The team now travels to Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung City, Taiwan, where the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship gets underway July 11.
Quick Hits
PFF puts three LSU Tigers in its Top 50. Pro Football Focus released its list of the 50 best players to watch in 2026, and LSU landed three: transfer quarterback Sam Leavitt (No. 41), whom PFF calls "as physically gifted as any quarterback in the country"; offensive tackle Jordan Seaton (No. 43), described as "arguably the best pass protector in college football" after leading the Big 12 in pass protection in 2025; and tight end Trey'Dez Green (No. 49), whose seven touchdown receptions and 12 contested catches both ranked second among all tight ends last season.
Former Missouri stars shine at the Prefontaine Classic. At Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, former Tiger Gabi Jacobs took seventh in the discus final at 193 feet, 4 1/4 inches, while six-time NCAA champion Karissa Schweizer placed sixth in the women's two-mile in 9:22.79 — the third-best American finish in the field.
Tennessee places three on ESPN's all-time top 100 by jersey number. Defensive end Reggie White (No. 92), who racked up 15 sacks and 100 tackles in 1983 and left Knoxville as the program's all-time sack leader with 32, headlines the group alongside fellow Pro Football Hall of Famer Doug Atkins (No. 91) and two-time All-American linebacker Steve Kiner (No. 57).
Mizzou baseball's transfer class cracks the top 20. Missouri's portal haul now ranks No. 19 nationally and 13th in the SEC, headlined by High Point catcher/designated hitter Seojun Oh, who hit .351 and won Big South Player of the Year. Missouri reportedly beat out other SEC programs for Oh's commitment.
Softball arms on the move. Per D1Softball, former Oklahoma and Texas pitcher Sophia Bordi is transferring to Rutgers, and former Indiana and Campbell pitcher Megan Gregory is headed to Cal.
Portal Watch
No new SEC portal entries hit the wire in the last 12 hours, but the offseason churn continues around the edges. The most notable SEC-adjacent move is Sophia Bordi, the former Oklahoma and Texas pitcher, landing at Rutgers, according to D1Softball. Meanwhile, Missouri baseball keeps assembling one of the league's more active incoming classes, with its No. 19 national portal ranking reflecting weeks of steady additions.
Recruiting Buzz
Missouri women's basketball picked up a significant pledge in Katie Muller, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from West Des Moines rated the No. 2 overall prospect in Iowa. Muller led Iowa's 5A class in assists per game while shooting over 35 percent from three, and she chose the Tigers over Kansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Her sister Ellie is already on the Missouri roster.
On the baseball side, LSU lost a signee: California middle infielder CJ Weinstein, ranked No. 149 in the MLB Draft rankings, flipped his commitment to UCLA to play closer to home. LSU still holds 22 commitments in its 2026 class.
