Rebels in Third, Aggies Surge at SEC Men's Golf Championship
The leaderboard is tight at the SEC Men's Golf Championship in Sea Island, Ga., setting the stage for a dramatic final round of stroke play. After 36 holes, the No. 12 Ole Miss men's golf team sits in third place at 21-under par. The Rebels followed up a blistering opening round with a solid 6-under 274 on Thursday, keeping them firmly in contention for the title.
While the Rebels hold a strong position, the chase pack is close behind. Texas A&M made the biggest move of the day, climbing three spots into a tie for sixth place at 16-under. The Aggies fired a 10-under 270, the third-best team score of the round, powered by impressive 4-under 66s from Wheaton Ennis and Jaime Montojo. Mississippi State also remains in the hunt, tied with the Aggies for sixth after posting a consistent 7-under 273 on Thursday. Dain Richie leads the Bulldogs individually, tied for 15th after his fifth consecutive round of par or better.
Further down the leaderboard, the No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers showed significant improvement, shaving five strokes off their first-round score with a 7-under 273. Senior Lance Simpson sparked the Vols with a 5-under 65. Meanwhile, the Mizzou Tigers were led by a strong performance from freshman Esteban Cruz Bonilla. All teams will be battling on Friday to finish inside the top eight, which is the cutoff to advance to the match play portion of the championship.
