LEAD STORY: Missouri Storms Lawrence, 38-21
Missouri walked into David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Friday night and did something the Tigers had not done since October 2001: leave with a win. The 38-21 Border War victory moved Missouri to 2-0 and marked the first meeting between the schools in Lawrence since 2005.
Quarterback Austin Simmons carried the offense through a sloppy first half, finishing 19-of-29 for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Cayden Lee and Donovan Olugbode each topped 100 receiving yards with a touchdown apiece, and Olugbode cleared the century mark before halftime for the second straight game. Simmons found Lee up the middle for a 27-yard score just before the break to send the teams to the locker room tied at 14, after Kansas had blocked both Missouri field goal attempts and returned the second one 88 yards for a touchdown. Jamal Roberts had jolted a dormant ground game with a 64-yard touchdown run on the Tigers' 15th carry after the first 14 had produced just 27 yards.
The second half belonged to linebacker Robert Woodyard Jr. On Kansas' first offensive snap after the break, Woodyard stripped quarterback Isaiah Marshall and recovered the fumble at the KU 35, setting up an Olugbode touchdown on a slant. On the very next Kansas snap, Woodyard dropped into coverage, intercepted Marshall and returned it 27 yards to the 12. Xai'Shaun Edwards punched it in from 10 yards out for a 28-14 lead less than five minutes into the third quarter. Kansas got back within a score on a 10-yard pass to Nahzae Cox, but a Blake Craig field goal and Brett Norfleet's 13-yard fourth-down touchdown catch closed it out. Nicholas Rodriguez's sack with 34 seconds left was the exclamation point. Marshall finished 13-of-30 for the Jayhawks.
The warts were real: Missouri's pass rush collected all four of its sacks in the final minutes, and the offensive line drew three false starts before finally generating push late. Missouri hosts Troy on Sept. 19 in the Memorial Stadium 100th Anniversary Game.

Georgia injury report stays light before Western Kentucky. Outside linebacker Chase Linton remains questionable with a leg injury, defensive back Jontae Gilbert is dealing with a finger issue, and offensive lineman Drew Bobo is expected to play with a club on his hand. Per DawgNation, 2028 five-star quarterback commit Jayden Wade, rated the No. 1 QB in his class, is among the expected recruiting visitors for the No. 2 Bulldogs' 11:45 a.m. CT kickoff on SEC Network.
Mississippi State takes soccer bragging rights in Oxford. The Bulldogs beat Ole Miss 4-1 on Friday night at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium in the SEC opener for both programs.
Missouri volleyball bounces back. After a loss to top-five Louisville, the Tigers dropped the opening set to Arkansas State while hitting -.034, then swept the final three sets. Grace O'Reilly led with 13 kills, and Sierra Dudley entered during the first set and finished with four kills and 36 assists in Missouri's new 6-2 system.
No. 17 Tennessee volleyball returns home. The Lady Vols host Coastal Carolina at 3 p.m. ET Saturday at Food City Center, streaming on SEC Network+.
Olympic sports on the road. Oklahoma softball is well represented on the USA Softball Women's National Team at the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Group C stage at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, running Saturday through Wednesday. No. 3 Texas women's golf opens its season at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at PGA Frisco.

No transfer portal activity to report in the last 12 hours. The Border War was a reminder of what offseason additions can do: Simmons and Woodyard, both SEC transfers, were the two most decisive players on the field for Missouri.
RECRUITING BUZZ
No new commitments came in overnight. Georgia's home game against Western Kentucky doubles as a major visit weekend, headlined by Wade, whose 78-yard touchdown run went viral via Rivals late last month.
