Georgia Snaps Longhorns' Streak in Athens
A five-game winning streak for the Texas Longhorns came to a halt in Athens on Saturday, as the Georgia Bulldogs delivered a stunning 91-80 upset. The Bulldogs were scorching from the floor at Stegeman Coliseum, shooting an impressive 59.6 percent from the field and a blistering 55 percent from three-point range. Guard Jeremiah Wilkinson led the charge for Georgia with 19 points, one of five Bulldogs to score in double figures.
The Longhorns struggled to find consistent offense outside of a few key players. Sophomore center Matas Vokietaitis had a game-high 22 points, and junior wing Dailyn Swain added 21. However, key contributors Tramon Mark and Cam Heide were held to a combined four points. Georgia's bench was a significant factor, outscoring Texas's reserves 34-16. After being dominated on the offensive glass in their previous meeting, the Bulldogs also won the rebounding battle this time around. Georgia's relentless ball pressure contributed to six early Texas turnovers, allowing the Bulldogs to build an 18-point lead in the first half. While Texas managed to tie the game at 67-67 in the second half, their defensive issues resurfaced, and Georgia pulled away for their first victory over the Longhorns since January.
