Florida Center Rueben Chinyelu Declares for NBA Draft
Florida Gators center Rueben Chinyelu announced Monday he will enter the 2026 NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. The move allows the decorated big man to receive valuable feedback from professional scouts before making a final decision on his future. The deadline to withdraw from the draft and return to college is May 27.
Chinyelu is coming off a dominant season where he was named the National Defensive Player of the Year by both Naismith and the NABC, in addition to being the SEC's Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-foot-10 Nigerian became the first Florida player in a half-century to average a double-double for a season, posting 10.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. His 137 offensive rebounds set a new single-season record for the Gators.
His decision to explore the draft is a pivotal moment for the Gators' frontcourt. Chinyelu was a cornerstone of a team that won the SEC regular season championship, and his potential return would be a massive boost for the program's aspirations in the 2026-27 season.
