OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (05/27/2026) — The Alabama Crimson Tide answered a three-run deficit with a five-run surge, riding Brooke Wells' decisive home run to a 6-3 victory over the UCLA Bruins on Wednesday at OGE Energy Field at Devon Park.

In the circle, Jocelyn Briski went the distance for Alabama, scattering six hits across 7.0 innings while striking out nine and allowing three runs. Her staying power on the mound gave the Crimson Tide offense room to climb back after falling behind.

How It Happened

Alabama struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Marlie Giles singled to left to score Jena Young, pushing Brooke Wells to third and advancing to second on the throw, and the Crimson Tide led 1-0.

UCLA seized control in the third. Rylee Slimp homered to center, plating Mia Phillips and flipping the scoreboard to a 2-1 Bruins advantage. Megan Grant followed with a solo shot to right, stretching the lead to 3-1 and handing Alabama its lone deficit of the night.

The Crimson Tide chipped away and then drew level in the fifth. Alexis Pupillo homered to right, scoring Jena Young, to knot the game at 3-3. The home run reset the contest and set the stage for Alabama's defining sequence.

Turning Point

The game tipped for good in the bottom of the sixth. With Kennedy White and Jena Young aboard, Brooke Wells launched a three-run home run to center, vaulting Alabama ahead 6-3. The blast capped a 5-0 Crimson Tide run that erased the early three-run hole and proved to be the decisive blow. Briski protected the three-run cushion the rest of the way, closing out a complete-game effort.

Star of the Game

Wells delivered the swing that defined the night, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored, three RBI and the go-ahead three-run homer. Her sixth-inning shot accounted for the margin of victory and turned a tie game into a comfortable Alabama lead.

Jena Young was a constant presence at the top of the order, reaching base four times on a 3-for-3, three-run, one-walk performance and scoring on three of Alabama's run-producing plays. Pupillo added a clutch game-tying home run, going 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI, while Audrey Vandagriff chipped in a 2-for-3 day and Giles drove in a run with a walk.

For UCLA, Slimp (1-for-4, home run, two RBI) and Grant (1-for-3, home run, RBI) supplied the early power, and Taylor Tinsley logged 6.0 innings with 10 hits, six runs and five strikeouts.

What It Means

The win showcased Alabama's resilience, as the Crimson Tide overcame a 3-1 hole against a power-hitting UCLA lineup and answered with five unanswered runs. Briski's complete game and the late offensive burst from Wells, Young and Pupillo gave Alabama a complete performance from the circle to the batter's box.

UCLA built an early lead behind the long ball from Slimp and Grant but could not extend it, and the Bruins' three runs came entirely on those two third-inning home runs. Tinsley battled through six innings, but the sixth-inning damage from Wells decided the outcome. The Bruins fell short in a hard-fought matchup that hinged on a single swing.
