COLLEGE STATION, Texas (05/31/2026) — The USC Trojans turned a 1-1 deadlock into a runaway, scoring seven unanswered runs to topple the Texas A&M Aggies 7-1 on Sunday at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park. Augie Lopez drove in five of those runs, and a four-man pitching effort held Texas A&M to a single tally as USC seized control on the road.

## How It Happened

Texas A&M struck first. In the third inning, Bear Harrison homered to center to put the Aggies ahead 1-0, the lone blemish on the scoreboard for USC's staff all afternoon. The Trojans answered in the fifth, when Abbrie Covarrubias singled to center to score Dean Carpentier and knot the game at 1-1 — the only tie of the day. Moments later, Augie Lopez singled to right center to bring home Covarrubias, pushing USC ahead 2-1 and handing the lead changes column a zero it would keep for good.

From there, the Trojans never looked back. Starter Grant Govel set the tone over four innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out four. Chase Herrell followed with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, scattering three hits and fanning two. Sax Matson and Adam Troy closed it out without surrendering a run, Troy punching out one in a clean ninth.

## Turning Point

The seventh inning broke the game open. With Covarrubias and Adrian Lopez aboard, Augie Lopez crushed a three-run homer to right, blowing the score open to 5-1 and capping a 7-0 run that decided the afternoon. The Trojans tacked on two more in the eighth: Adrian Lopez grounded into a fielder's choice to second that plated Carpentier, and Augie Lopez delivered a sacrifice fly to left to score Walter Urbon, stretching the margin to its final 7-1.

That seventh-inning swing was the dagger. After the Aggies had matched USC pitch for pitch through six, Lopez's blast flipped a one-run game into a four-run cushion and removed any doubt about the outcome.

## Star of the Game

Augie Lopez was the difference. He finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and a game-high five RBI, accounting for the bulk of USC's offense with his RBI single in the fifth, his three-run homer in the seventh, and his sacrifice fly in the eighth. When the Trojans needed a hit, Lopez delivered it.

Covarrubias was a constant presence atop the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and two walks, reaching base four times and scoring twice. Adrian Lopez chipped in a 2-for-5 day with a run and an RBI, while Carpentier scored twice from his 1-for-5 line. On the mound, Govel's four innings and four strikeouts earned him the start's reward, and Herrell's 3.2 scoreless frames bridged the game to the finish.

For Texas A&M, Harrison provided the only offense of note, going 1-for-2 with the third-inning home run and the Aggies' lone RBI. Chris Hacopian, Jake Duer, Ben Royo, and Jorian Wilson each collected a hit. Starter Clayton Freshcorn worked 6.2 innings with five strikeouts but was charged with five runs on nine hits, the damage concentrated in the back half of his outing.

## What It Means

The 7-1 result is a statement road win for the USC Trojans, who showed they could absorb an early punch and respond with sustained offense and lockdown pitching. Augie Lopez's five-RBI afternoon and the bullpen's scoreless work behind Govel give USC plenty to build on.

For the Texas A&M Aggies, the loss stings despite a strong start. Freshcorn kept his team in it through six before the seventh-inning surge tilted the game, and the lineup managed just seven hits with only Harrison's homer crossing the plate. The Aggies will look to regroup, find more length from their offense, and contain the kind of late rally that decided this one.
