PARIS (11/01/2026) — The South Carolina Gamecocks never trailed Sunday at Adidas Arena, building a 28-point halftime cushion and then holding off a furious Maryland Terrapins rally for a 101-93 victory. Four Gamecocks scored at least 15 points, and South Carolina shot 49 percent from the field and a blistering 50 percent from three-point range in a game that featured zero lead changes and zero ties.

Maryland's Addi Mack poured in 35 points and nearly authored one of the comebacks of the young season, but the hole the Terrapins dug in the opening ten minutes proved too deep.

## How It Happened

Chloe Kitts opened the scoring with a free throw at the 9:50 mark of the first quarter, and Agot Makeer immediately turned the game into a shooting exhibition. Makeer buried a 25-foot three at 9:14 and a 24-footer at 8:01 — both assisted by Joyce Edwards — as the Gamecocks sprinted ahead 11-2. An 11-0 South Carolina run blew the game open, and Jerzy Robinson's 24-foot three with 27 seconds left in the quarter made it 33-13. Trinity Jones' free throw at the buzzer sent Maryland to the second quarter down 33-14.

The Terrapins found some rhythm from deep in the second — Jones connected on a 24-footer at 9:50, and Nunu Agara and Rainey Welson added triples — but Makeer kept answering, and Edwards beat the halftime buzzer with a 16-foot jumper to push the lead to 61-33 at the break.

Tessa Johnson's three at 9:34 of the third quarter stretched the margin to 64-33, South Carolina's largest lead of the night. That's when Mack took over. The Maryland guard drilled 27-foot threes at 6:14 and 4:50, Bri McDaniel added one of her own, and the Terrapins chipped the deficit into the teens. Edwards' tip-in with 50 seconds left in the third kept South Carolina in front 78-59.

Maryland kept coming in the fourth. Mack hit three more threes — at 8:04, 7:28 and 5:53 — and when Jordyn Jackson splashed a 25-footer at the 4:44 mark, the Terrapins were suddenly within 89-80. Robinson slammed the door with a 22-foot three at 3:22, restoring a 94-80 lead, and the Gamecocks closed it out from there.

## Turning Point

The game was decided in the first ten minutes. South Carolina's 11-0 first-quarter run, bookended by Makeer's back-to-back deep threes and capped by Robinson's triple in the final minute, built a 33-14 lead that Maryland chased all night. The Terrapins outscored the Gamecocks over long stretches of the second half, but with no lead changes and no ties, the outcome never truly flipped into doubt. When Jackson's three trimmed it to nine, Robinson's immediate answer at 3:22 of the fourth was the dagger.

## Star of the Game

Mack was the night's most prolific scorer, finishing with 35 points and 6 assists while hitting three three-pointers in the third quarter and three more in the fourth to fuel Maryland's comeback. On the winning side, Edwards was the engine — 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, plus two assists on Makeer's tone-setting threes in the opening minutes. Makeer added 20 points, while Johnson (15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists) and Robinson (15 points, 6 rebounds) rounded out a balanced Gamecocks attack.

## What It Means

For South Carolina, this was a statement of depth and firepower. The Gamecocks put up 101 points on 49 percent shooting, went 50 percent from three, won the rebounding battle 44-36 and totaled 24 assists on the night — with four different players reaching 15 points. The combined 21 made threes between the two teams underscored how comfortable South Carolina was playing in an up-tempo, perimeter-oriented game.

Maryland leaves with a tough loss but a clear takeaway: Mack is a legitimate go-to scorer, and the Terrapins' 43 percent three-point shooting and 22 assists show an offense capable of trading blows with elite competition. Cleaning up slow starts — and closing the rebounding gap — will be the priority. The Terrapins proved they could win the final three quarters; they'll need all four against teams like the Gamecocks.
