OXFORD, Miss. (11/01/2026) — The Ole Miss Rebels never trailed and never let the Alcorn State Lady Braves threaten, rolling to an 80-38 victory Sunday at The Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss in front of 8,412 fans. The Rebels controlled every phase of the game — there were zero lead changes and zero ties — as Ole Miss out-rebounded Alcorn State 48-28 and converted 26 Lady Braves turnovers into a wire-to-wire win.

## How It Happened

Ole Miss set the tone from the opening minutes. Doneelah Washington's layup at the 8:48 mark of the first quarter gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead they would never surrender, and Jaida Civil's layup with 3:10 left in the period pushed the margin to 10-6.

Alcorn State hung within striking distance early in the second quarter. After Talaysia Cooper opened the period with an 18-foot jumper off a Jada Richard assist, and later buried a 26-foot three set up by Knisha Godfrey to make it 18-9, the Lady Braves answered. Arene Iyekekpolor connected on a 25-foot three off a Dekyra Mitchell assist to cut it to 20-12, and Jae'la Smith's 17-foot jumper with 3:15 remaining in the half trimmed the deficit to 25-17.

That was as close as Alcorn State would get. Ole Miss closed the half on an 11-2 surge, capped by Civil's 24-foot three-pointer off a Jade Tillman assist with 44 seconds left, sending the Rebels into the locker room ahead 36-19.

The second half belonged entirely to Ole Miss. Civil opened the third quarter with a layup at 9:32, and the Rebels steadily stretched the lead — 44-25 after a Jada Morgan free throw for Alcorn State at 6:14, then 53-27 on Tillman's free throw with 3:01 left in the period. Godfrey's layup off a Civil assist in the final minute made it 57-29 heading into the fourth.

Richard's 25-foot three off a Cooper assist at the 8:08 mark of the fourth quarter put Ole Miss up 60-29, and the Rebels poured it on from there. Maya Anderson and Godfrey hit back-to-back threes from beyond 24 feet in the final three minutes during a 10-0 Ole Miss run, and Rachael Okokoh's free throw with 1:18 to play set the final margin at 80-38.

## Turning Point

The decisive stretch came in the closing minutes of the second quarter. With Alcorn State within eight at 25-17 following Smith's jumper, Ole Miss ripped off an 11-2 burst to end the half, punctuated by Civil's three-pointer from 24 feet. A manageable deficit ballooned to 17 at the break, and the Lady Braves — who shot 31% from the field and just 8% from three-point range on the night — could not generate enough offense to mount a comeback against a Rebels defense that forced 26 turnovers.

## Star of the Game

Jaida Civil filled the stat sheet for Ole Miss, finishing with a team-high 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists. She scored at every level — layups in the first and third quarters, the dagger three before halftime — and set up teammates late, assisting on Godfrey's third-quarter layup and her 25-foot three in the final minutes. Jade Tillman delivered a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Jada Richard added 14 points and three assists and Talaysia Cooper chipped in nine points.

For Alcorn State, Jae'la Smith and Jada Morgan led the way with eight points apiece, while Lauren Nelson handed out a team-best four assists to go with six points and Chrishunti Walker added six points and four rebounds.

## What It Means

For Ole Miss, this was a thorough early-season performance across the board. The Rebels shot 42% from the field, won the rebounding battle by 20, dished 16 assists, and smothered the Lady Braves defensively from the opening tip. The balance was notable — four players scored nine or more points, and the bench contributed with Anderson's and Okokoh's late scoring. The 22% three-point shooting leaves room for growth, but the defense and glass work carried the day comfortably.

For Alcorn State, the 26 turnovers and 8% three-point shooting proved too much to overcome against an SEC opponent. The Lady Braves found some second-quarter rhythm behind Iyekekpolor's deep three and Smith's mid-range game, and that stretch offers something to build on as their season progresses.
