# SEC Scouts Football Power Rankings: Week 7

Georgia went into Tuscaloosa and left unbeaten. The Bulldogs' 20-17 win at Alabama was the biggest result of the weekend, and it locked in Georgia's hold on the top spot. At 6-0 overall and 4-0 in SEC play, Georgia posts a Power Score of 94.0. That is 17.6 points clear of second place, the largest gap anywhere in this week's rankings.

Below Georgia, the regular season gets crowded. Five points separate No. 3 Missouri (71.1) from No. 8 Mississippi State (65.6), and every team in that group has a 4-1 mark over its last five games. Kentucky's one-point win over LSU, Missouri's 27-6 handling of Texas A&M and Oklahoma's upset of Texas all moved teams around in a crowded middle.

The formula also shows how far the national polls and SEC results can split. Texas holds the AP's No. 1 ranking but sits seventh here after losing at Oklahoma and starting 1-1 in conference play. South Carolina is No. 11 in the AP poll but 13th in our model at 3-3. Both are reminders that this formula rewards conference results and recent form as much as reputation.

## The Rankings

**1. Georgia (6-0, 4-0 SEC)** — Power Score: 94.0
Georgia is the SEC's only unbeaten team and leads the league with a +193 point differential. The 20-17 road win at Alabama is the best win any team has this season. It counts toward the formula's quality-wins component and keeps the Bulldogs' last five at a perfect 5-0. AP No. 2.

**2. Alabama (5-1, 3-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 76.4
A three-point home loss to Georgia doesn't erase what the Crimson Tide have built. Alabama's +141 point differential is tied for second-best in the conference, and before Georgia it beat Mississippi State 56-23. The Crimson Tide are 4-1 over their last five and hold the AP's No. 6 spot.

**3. Missouri (5-1, 2-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 71.1
Missouri held Texas A&M to six points in a 27-6 home win, its most complete performance of the season. The Tigers' +109 point differential ranks fourth in the SEC. Their No. 3 spot here sits well above their AP No. 14 ranking.

**4. Kentucky (5-1, 3-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 70.3
Kentucky edged LSU 35-34 and owns three conference wins, matching Alabama for the second-most in the league. The Wildcats' +40 point differential is the lowest among the top eight, which means close games are carrying their résumé. They are 4-1 over their last five.

**5. Ole Miss (4-1, 2-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 69.5
The Rebels scored 52 points in a 35-point road win at Vanderbilt, the most decisive result of the week. Ole Miss is 4-1 over its last five with a +54 differential. The AP has the Rebels at No. 9, the third-highest AP ranking among SEC teams.

**6. Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 68.4
Tennessee won 24-17 at Arkansas after beating Auburn 24-14 at home, giving it consecutive conference wins. The Volunteers' +115 point differential ranks third in the SEC. They sit sixth here and 15th in the AP poll.

**7. Texas (4-1, 1-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 66.3
The Longhorns lost 27-24 at Oklahoma, and their 1-1 conference record pulls down the formula's conference-win component. Texas still has a +77 point differential and a 4-1 mark over its last five. Its AP No. 1 ranking accounts for part of its Power Score. Seventh is the widest poll-versus-formula gap in the top half.

**8. Mississippi State (4-1, 2-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 65.6
The Bulldogs' 56-23 home loss to Alabama was their only defeat so far, and it hit their +55 point differential hard. Mississippi State is still 2-1 in conference play and 4-1 over its last five. The AP has the Bulldogs at No. 17.

**9. LSU (4-2, 1-2 SEC)** — Power Score: 57.9
LSU's +141 point differential ties Alabama for second in the SEC, but the Tigers are 1-2 in conference play after losing 35-34 at Kentucky. Two conference losses outweigh the scoring margin in this formula. LSU's AP No. 10 ranking sits a spot above its position here.

**10. Florida (4-2, 2-2 SEC)** — Power Score: 57.0
South Carolina won 38-19 at Florida, cutting the Gators' last five to 3-2 and evening their conference mark at 2-2. Florida still has a +76 point differential. It holds the AP's No. 16 spot.

**11. Oklahoma (3-2, 1-1 SEC)** — Power Score: 49.9
The Sooners' 27-24 home win over Texas is the most valuable quality win any team picked up this week. It came against the AP's No. 1 team. Oklahoma's +27 point differential and 3-2 record keep it in the middle tier for now, but that result gives the Sooners a strong case to move up.

**12. Auburn (3-2, 1-2 SEC)** — Power Score: 46.5
Auburn's last game was a 24-14 loss at Tennessee, its second conference loss. The Tigers are 3-2 over their last five with a +27 differential. Their AP No. 22 ranking keeps them in the national picture, but they need conference wins to climb.

**13. South Carolina (3-3, 1-3 SEC)** — Power Score: 43.6
The Gamecocks' 38-19 win at Florida was their first SEC win and their best result of the season. South Carolina has a +73 point differential, better than that of three teams ranked above it. The 1-3 conference start and 2-3 recent form hold down its score. Thirteenth here is the second-largest gap from an AP ranking in this edition; the AP has the Gamecocks at No. 11.

**14. Texas A&M (3-3, 1-3 SEC)** — Power Score: 37.3
Texas A&M managed six points in its 27-6 loss at Missouri, its third conference defeat. The Aggies are 2-3 over their last five, though their +45 point differential is still positive. They are No. 23 in the AP poll.

**15. Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3 SEC)** — Power Score: 30.4
Ole Miss beat Vanderbilt 52-17 in Nashville, leaving the Commodores winless in SEC play. Vanderbilt is one of only two SEC teams with a negative point differential, at -33. The Commodores are 2-3 over their last five.

**16. Arkansas (2-4, 0-3 SEC)** — Power Score: 16.3
Arkansas stayed within a touchdown of Tennessee in a 24-17 loss, but it is still 0-3 in conference play and 1-4 over its last five. The Razorbacks' -50 point differential is the worst in the SEC. They are the only team in the league without an AP ranking.

## Stock Up

**Oklahoma.** Beating the AP's top-ranked team is the kind of result this formula's quality-wins component is built to reward. At 1-1 in conference play with that win in hand, the Sooners should keep climbing if they keep winning.

**Missouri.** Missouri held Texas A&M to six points, moved to third and owns a +109 point differential. The Tigers are 12 spots higher here than in the AP poll, the clearest case in this edition of a team the formula likes more than the voters do.

**South Carolina.** A 19-point road win at Florida gave the Gamecocks their first SEC win. Their +73 differential suggests a team that has played better than its 3-3 record.

## Stock Down

**Texas.** The loss at Oklahoma dropped the Longhorns to 1-1 in conference play and seventh overall, despite their AP No. 1 ranking. In this formula, conference results matter more than poll position.

**LSU.** LSU lost by one point at Kentucky and fell to 1-2 in the SEC. The Tigers have the conference's second-best point differential but rank ninth, the clearest example in this edition of margin failing to make up for losses.

**Texas A&M.** A 21-point loss at Missouri gives the Aggies three conference losses and a 2-3 mark over their last five. They are 14th in the formula while still holding an AP ranking.

## Games to Watch

This week's data doesn't include upcoming schedules, so look for matchups that fit these storylines:

- **Any game involving Georgia.** The Bulldogs are the only unbeaten team in the SEC. Each conference win adds to a 4-0 league record no one else is close to.
- **The 2-1 conference group.** Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Mississippi State all sit at 2-1 in the SEC. Their head-to-head games will decide who stays in the chase behind Georgia, Alabama and Kentucky.
- **Kentucky's next conference test.** The Wildcats are 3-1 with a +40 point differential. A comfortable win would back up their No. 4 spot, and a loss would expose their thin scoring margin.
- **Texas and LSU.** Both have the scoring numbers of contenders but the conference records of middle-tier teams. Their next SEC games will show whether they can climb back.
