## LEAD STORY: Missouri Runs No. 8 Florida Off the Field

No. 25 Missouri pulled off the most lopsided result of Saturday's SEC slate, beating No. 8 Florida 45-17. A ranked team scoring 45 points on a top-10 opponent is a statement in any year. Doing it by 28 points puts Missouri squarely in the SEC title conversation and leaves Florida with questions.

Florida's own team site summed up the mood in Gainesville: the Gators "will do some soul-searching after Saturday's 28-point loss to Missouri." With a top-10 ranking on the line, Florida has a short turnaround. The Gators face South Carolina next Saturday, Oct. 10, at 12:45 p.m. on SEC Network.

For Missouri, the win is a résumé builder that should move the Tigers up from No. 25 when the new polls come out. For Florida, the next week is about getting back to work before South Carolina comes in.

## QUICK HITS

- **LSU puts up 731 yards against McNeese.** LSU scored a touchdown on seven of its first eight drives and led 35-0 at halftime, according to a postgame breakdown. Sam Leavitt went 18-of-23 for 176 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He has been playing through a hamstring injury he picked up against Texas A&M. Freshman Corey Barber Jr. caught seven passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers ran for 367 yards. Harlem Berry had 125 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, and Stacy Gage scored on runs of 46 and 39 yards to finish with 110 yards on six carries. The defense held McNeese to 31 total yards in the first half and 196 for the game. The Cowboys went 1-of-12 on third down. Princewill Umanmielen recorded his eighth sack of the season, and freshman Deuce Geralds added his fifth. Brysten Martinez went down in pregame warmups but played in the second half. LSU's next game is at Kentucky.

- **Alabama women's golf leads after Day 1.** The Crimson Tide shot 6-under-par 280 in the first round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational and are in first place.

- **Alabama swimming and diving sweeps Delta State.** Alabama won its home opener at the Alabama Aquatic Center easily. The women won 253-33 and the men won 248-41.

- **Texas men win the Chile Pepper Festival.** The Longhorns' men's cross country team won with 64 points, and Bennett finished third overall. Six Texas women set new 5K personal bests.

- **Oklahoma rowing opens its fall season.** The Sooners won seven races and had 16 top-three finishes at the annual Head of the Oklahoma regatta in Oklahoma City.

## PORTAL WATCH

No transfer portal activity was reported in the last 12 hours. With conference play underway, there is little roster movement for now. We'll keep watching for any news affecting SEC rosters.

## RECRUITING BUZZ

South Carolina women's basketball added a top-tier piece to its 2027 class. Taylor Brown, the No. 30 player and No. 5 point guard in the SC Next 100 for 2027, committed to the Gamecocks on Saturday, per ESPN. A point guard ranked that high gives South Carolina a key early piece for the 2027 class.

No new football commitments were reported in the last 12 hours.

## GAMES TO WATCH

**Today**

- **Volleyball: Vanderbilt at Ole Miss, 2 p.m. CT.** Ole Miss has started SEC play strong and hosts Vanderbilt at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
