## LEAD STORY: Missouri's Weekly Awards Follow 45-17 Win Over Florida

The SEC's weekly honors all pointed to Columbia on Monday. Quarterback Austin Simmons was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after Missouri beat Florida 45-17 on Saturday, according to Rock M Nation. Simmons went 23-of-30 for 340 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Through five games he has 1,287 passing yards, third-most in the SEC.

The defense earned an award too. Junior linebacker Nicholas Rodriguez was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after a game-high 11 tackles. His 50 tackles through five games lead the conference. Missouri held Florida and Jadan Baugh to 42 rushing yards. Rock M Nation reports that this is the fewest rushing yards Missouri has allowed in any of its six home wins over top-10 opponents. Per PFF, the Tigers posted a team run-defense grade of 90.9. That is their best of the season and their best against an SEC opponent since 2018 against Kentucky. CBS Sports named Missouri's offensive and defensive coordinators its SEC coordinators of the week. The head coach collected Paul "Bear" Bryant and Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week honors.

The result also moved Missouri up the AP poll. The Tigers had fallen to No. 25 after losing to Mississippi State, and they climbed to No. 14 on Sunday. Rock M Nation noted that Missouri won by 28 points as an underdog against an AP Top 10 team, on Homecoming. Next up is a trip to Ole Miss on Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. CT, on ABC, ESPN or SEC Network.

## QUICK HITS

- **Georgia heads to Tuscaloosa with an injury to watch.** Georgia beat Vanderbilt on Oct. 3, and wide receiver Thomas Blackshear now has an upper-body injury, per Dawg Sports. Saturday's top-10 game in Tuscaloosa will host ESPN's College GameDay. Fans should expect tighter security and delays getting into the stadium. Georgia then hosts Auburn at 3:30 p.m. ET the following week, with the network still to be announced. Auburn has an open date this weekend.

- **LSU volleyball splits its homestand.** LSU (7-6, 2-2 SEC) lost 3-0 to Vanderbilt and then beat Missouri 3-2, winning the fifth set 15-10. Outside hitter Jurnee Robinson posted a double-double against Missouri with 23 kills and 16 digs. She is now third in program history in career kills and needs 110 more to tie for second. Setter Lauren Brooker added 50 assists and 12 digs.

- **Georgia's Tori Harper earns an SEC honor.** The Georgia middle blocker was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

- **Golf: Mississippi State and Ole Miss both in second.** Darkness suspended play Monday at two events. At the Cullan Brown Collegiate, Mississippi State is tied for second at 5-under and has three players in the top 20. Ole Miss is second at the Hamptons Intercollegiate in East Hampton, N.Y.

- **Weather changes Mississippi State baseball's exhibition plans.** Tropical weather moving into the region has forced the Bulldogs to change this weekend's exhibition schedule.

- **Missouri basketball preview.** Missouri women's basketball said at media day that its goal is the NCAA Tournament. On the men's side, Missouri plays Nebraska on Dec. 12 in Kansas City. Rock M Nation's preview expects the Huskers to be closer to a top-30 team than a top-15 one.
