## LEAD STORY: Georgia Turns Bye Week Into a Self-Scouting Mission

The sting of Saturday's home loss to the Auburn Tigers hasn't faded in Athens, but Georgia is treating the setback — and the off week that follows it — as a chance to get right. The Bulldogs have no opponent to prepare for this weekend, and the staff is using the open date to heal up and turn the lens inward on a defense that Auburn exposed in several areas.

Tackling tops the list. "One of the glaring things to us is we want to tackle better. We're higher in missed tackles than we've been in years past," Georgia's head coach said this week, acknowledging that while missed tackles are up across college football, "we're part of that problem." The message out of the building: when the margins tighten, improvement comes in inches, and the bye week is where those inches get found. The coaching staff also revisited game management from the loss, including how a mishandled second-quarter field-goal attempt could have been handled differently.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton's status drew plenty of fan speculation after he absorbed an early hit against Auburn, but both the head coach and Stockton himself have said the hit did not affect him. The larger on-field question is ball security — Stockton nearly turned it over twice against Alabama and wasn't as fortunate against the Tigers. Georgia's staff continues to back him as the quarterback who makes the necessary throws while minimizing mistakes, and the bye arrives at an ideal moment to shore up exactly that.

## QUICK HITS

- **Vols run into a buzzsaw at Cameron.** The No. 8/9 Tennessee men's basketball team dropped a top-10 exhibition clash at second-ranked Duke, 103-64, Tuesday evening at Cameron Indoor Stadium. It's an exhibition, so nothing counts — but the margin gives Tennessee's staff plenty of preseason tape to work with.
- **Tennessee relives the Third Saturday.** The Vols released their cinematic recap of the 26-10 win over Alabama at Neyland Stadium, giving fans another look at one of the signature results of Tennessee's season so far.
- **Lady Vols holding steady in Texas.** The No. 14 Tennessee women's golf team remains in second place through two rounds of the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate at Halbert National in Granbury, Texas — the final tournament of the Lady Vols' fall season.
- **Aggies and Commodores on the leaderboards.** Pounds and Kuvaas paced Texas A&M on day two of the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate, while Vanderbilt sits tied for sixth entering the final round with Merrill in podium position. On the women's side at The Fin, LSU is fourth after two rounds with Francesca Fiorellini tied for seventh.
- **Oklahoma baseball shifts fall series to Norman.** The Sooners' fall exhibition games against Texas Tech this Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25, have been moved from Lubbock to Norman due to forecasted inclement weather.
- **Georgia's fall sports keep rolling.** Per The Red & Black, Georgia volleyball picked up a pair of SEC road wins and Bulldogs women's soccer closed its regular-season home slate with a shutout.

## PORTAL WATCH

Quiet night on the transfer front — no new portal entries or commitments to report across the SEC in the last 12 hours. With several teams on bye weeks, expect roster movement to stay dormant until the season's stretch run forces decisions.

## RECRUITING BUZZ

No new commitments to report this morning. Recruiting news tends to bunch around official visit weekends, so look for the next wave of announcements as November approaches.

## GAMES TO WATCH

No SEC games are scheduled today. The midweek lull is a good time to catch up on fall sports — SEC golf wraps up its fall slate this week, and football returns to center stage this weekend.
