NASHVILLE, Tenn. (11/01/2026) — The Vanderbilt Commodores overwhelmed the Bellarmine Knights 93-47 at Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday, turning a competitive opening stretch into a 46-point rout behind 60 percent shooting and a defense that forced 23 turnovers in front of 6,319 fans.

Tyler Tanner led the way for Vanderbilt with 20 points and six assists, orchestrating an offense that piled up 19 assists and buried 12 three-pointers on the afternoon.

## How It Happened

Bellarmine hung around early. Sebastian Williams-Adams opened the scoring with a 28-foot three off a Tyler Tanner assist at the 19:50 mark, but the Knights answered, and Sam Donald's 30-foot triple at 12:29 — assisted by Tyler Doyle — knotted the game at 12-12. The teams were tied three times in the opening minutes.

Then Vanderbilt pulled away and never looked back. Berke Buyuktuncel drilled a 28-footer off a T.O. Barrett feed at 10:37, Ace Glass followed with a three from Chandler Bing at 9:13, and Tanner stretched the lead to 29-16 with a 28-foot step-back at 6:50. Ant Brown Jr. connected from 30 feet at 3:13 to make it 38-17, Buyuktuncel threw down a dunk off another Tanner assist, and Tanner's free throw in the final seconds sent the Commodores into halftime up 44-17.

The second half opened with more of the same. Buyuktuncel scored on a tip-in, Glass hit from 31 feet, and Chandler Bing finished an alley-oop dunk from Tanner at 17:28 to push the margin to 53-17. Bing added two more dunks — one from Glass at 16:39, another from Tanner at 7:49 — and Jackson Sheffield's dunk off an Ant Brown Jr. assist made it 64-19 with 15:10 to play.

Bellarmine found some rhythm late. Jacob Wassler hit back-to-back threes from 28 and 27 feet, both assisted by Tyler Doyle, and Tommy Clark connected from 31 feet off a Julius Gizzi assist to cut the deficit to 91-47. Ethan Mgbako's driving layup in the final minute closed the scoring at 93-47.

## Turning Point

The game swung for good on Vanderbilt's 20-0 run that began with the score at 38-17 and carried through the halftime break to 55-19. Over that stretch, the Commodores closed the first half with a Buyuktuncel dunk and a Tanner free throw, then opened the second with Buyuktuncel's tip-in, Glass's 31-foot three, and Bing's alley-oop slam. By the time Bellarmine scored again, a workable 21-point gap had ballooned to 36, and the Knights spent the rest of the afternoon chasing a game that was already decided.

Bellarmine's 23 turnovers fueled the avalanche. The Knights managed just eight assists against those giveaways, and their 37 percent shooting — including 24 percent from three — left them no path back once Vanderbilt's lead reached the thirties.

## Star of the Game

Tanner was the engine of everything Vanderbilt did well. His 20 points led all scorers, and his six assists set up some of the game's signature moments — Williams-Adams' opening three, Brown Jr.'s 30-footer, Buyuktuncel's first-half dunk, and two of Bing's three second-half slams. His 28-foot step-back late in the first half punctuated the initial separation, and his playmaking kept the offense humming at 60 percent from the field.

Buyuktuncel added 13 points, Glass chipped in 12 with three rebounds and two assists, and Bing finished with 11 points on a series of dunks. For Bellarmine, Demarcus Surratt scored a team-high nine points, with Wassler adding eight on his pair of late threes.

## What It Means

For the Vanderbilt Commodores, this was a statement of balance and efficiency. Four players reached double figures, the ball moved freely for 19 assists, and the defense turned Bellarmine's 23 turnovers into a rout. The 38-20 rebounding edge underscored how thoroughly Vanderbilt controlled every phase at Memorial Gymnasium.

For the Bellarmine Knights, the afternoon exposed areas that need work — ball security chief among them. The late shooting flurry from Wassler and Clark offered something to build on, but cleaning up the turnovers and finding more consistent offense will be the priority as the 2026 season moves forward.
