TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (10/08/2026) — The Georgia Bulldogs went into Bryant-Denny Stadium on Thursday night and beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 20-17 in front of 100,077 fans. Georgia won by three points, but the Bulldogs had the edge in most of the box score. They outgained Alabama 455 yards to 346, held the ball for more than 33 minutes and completed 18 of 22 passes against one of the SEC's toughest road environments.

## How It Happened

The two teams stayed close all night. Each side turned the ball over once, and Alabama converted six third downs to Georgia's seven. The Bulldogs pulled ahead through steady possession of the ball rather than big plays.

Georgia ran the ball well, piling up 206 rushing yards. That kept the offense ahead of the chains and kept Alabama's offense on the sideline. The Bulldogs held the ball for 33:28, compared with 26:32 for the Crimson Tide, and ran up 21 first downs to Alabama's 17.

Alabama kept answering. The Crimson Tide ran for 161 yards of their own and stayed within one score. Tight end Marshall Pritchett scored a touchdown, and Conor Talty added 5 points in the kicking game. Alabama's defense also got to the quarterback when it counted, with Yhonzae Pierre recording a sack.

Georgia's points came from several sources. Gunner Stockton accounted for a touchdown, and Peyton Woodring scored 8 points to give the Bulldogs points on drives that didn't reach the end zone. In a game decided by three points, Woodring's contribution was the difference on the scoreboard.

## Turning Point

No single play decided this game. Georgia won it through efficiency and control over four quarters. Completing 18 of 22 passes (81.8 percent) on the road against Alabama is rare, and it allowed the Bulldogs to keep drives going and run the clock.

Alabama completed 16 of 31 passes. With so many incompletions, the Crimson Tide struggled to sustain drives even though they finished with 346 total yards. Georgia's nearly seven-minute edge in time of possession limited how many chances Alabama got to come back in a one-score game. In a matchup this close, those extra possessions decided the outcome.

Georgia's defense also made an impact. Quintavius Johnson recorded a sack, one of the stops that helped the Bulldogs protect a narrow lead.

## Star of the Game

**Gunner Stockton, Georgia** — Stockton threw for 249 yards and accounted for a touchdown. He also kept Georgia's offense efficient all night as the Bulldogs completed 18 of 22 passes. He made few mistakes in one of college football's loudest stadiums, and his accuracy paired with a 206-yard rushing attack kept the Alabama defense guessing.

Woodring deserves credit too. His 8 points were the margin of victory in a three-point game.

For Alabama, Alex Asparuhov led the Crimson Tide with 193 yards. Pritchett's touchdown and Talty's 5 points helped keep Alabama in contention until the end.

## What It Means

For Georgia, a win at Bryant-Denny Stadium is one of the best results available on an SEC schedule. Beating Alabama on its home field gives the Bulldogs an important road win in the 2026 SEC race. It also showed a formula that should travel: a balanced offense with 249 passing yards and 206 rushing yards, plus enough ball control to manage a close game.

For Alabama, this was a hard-fought loss decided by a field goal's worth of points. The Crimson Tide moved the ball on the ground and stayed within striking distance throughout. The passing game's 16-of-31 completion rate and the gap in time of possession are the areas to fix as Alabama moves deeper into its conference schedule. With the SEC standings still unsettled, how the Crimson Tide respond to this narrow home loss will shape their season.

Both teams showed they belong among the SEC's contenders. On Thursday night in Tuscaloosa, Georgia made a few more plays than Alabama.
