STARKVILLE, Miss. (10/01/2026) — The Alabama Crimson Tide went into Davis Wade Stadium on Thursday night and beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs 56-23. Keelon Russell accounted for 285 yards and three touchdowns, and the Alabama defense forced four turnovers to give the Crimson Tide a decisive SEC road win.

Alabama outgained Mississippi State 483 yards to 302 and controlled the ball for 34:41. The Crimson Tide also won the turnover battle 4-2, a margin that kept giving them extra possessions.

## How It Happened

Alabama's offense was balanced and efficient. The Crimson Tide completed 18 of 24 passes (75 percent) for 304 yards and added 179 rushing yards. That 304-179 split meant Mississippi State could not commit to stopping one phase without leaving the other open.

Alabama picked up 22 first downs and converted six third downs. With its offense staying on schedule, the Crimson Tide held the ball for more than 34 minutes and kept the Mississippi State offense on the sideline for long stretches.

Mississippi State moved the ball through the air. The Bulldogs threw for 284 yards and earned 21 first downs, only one fewer than Alabama. They also converted seven third downs, one more than the Crimson Tide. Kamario Taylor led the way with 258 yards and three touchdowns, keeping Mississippi State on the scoreboard.

The Bulldogs' problems came on the ground and in ball security. Mississippi State ran for just 18 yards, so its offense depended almost entirely on the pass. The Bulldogs completed 22 of 40 attempts, and the 18 incompletions stalled several drives that had started to build.

## Turning Point

Turnovers decided the game. Mississippi State gave the ball away four times. Against an Alabama offense that averaged better than 12 yards per completion and rarely stalled, each giveaway was costly. The Crimson Tide turned the ball over twice themselves, but the plus-two margin gave Alabama the extra possessions that turned a competitive yardage battle into a 33-point win.

The Alabama front was just as important. Holding a Southeastern Conference opponent to 18 rushing yards forced Mississippi State into obvious passing situations. Once that happened, the Crimson Tide pass rush took over. London Simmons had two sacks and was a steady problem for the Bulldogs' protection.

Mississippi State's first-down and third-down numbers stayed close to Alabama's. The difference came from the turnovers and the Bulldogs' inability to run the ball, which together kept their drives from finishing.

## Star of the Game

Keelon Russell was the best player on the field. He finished with 285 yards and three touchdowns and ran an Alabama offense that completed three of every four passes. His production kept Mississippi State's defense on its heels all night, and the Crimson Tide's 304 passing yards gave the run game room to add 179 more.

Simmons deserves credit on the other side of the ball. His two sacks led an Alabama defense that limited the Bulldogs to 302 total yards and almost nothing on the ground. Conor Talty added seven points to the scoring.

For Mississippi State, Taylor's 258 yards and three touchdowns were a bright spot. Kyle Ferrie scored five points, and Kalvin Dinkins recorded a sack.

## What It Means

For the Alabama Crimson Tide, the win is a complete road performance in conference play. Scoring 56 points with a 75 percent completion rate, nearly 180 rushing yards and a time-of-possession edge of more than nine minutes shows an offense that can win in several ways. The defense pairs that with a pass rush that can take over once opponents become one-dimensional. That combination is a strong foundation for the rest of the SEC schedule.

For the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the passing game is something to build on. Taylor's three-touchdown night and 21 first downs show the offense can move the ball against a quality SEC defense. The fixes are also clear. Mississippi State has to create a more productive running game to balance the offense and protect its passers, and it has to clean up the turnovers. Four giveaways are hard to overcome against any SEC opponent, and against Alabama they decided the game.

The Bulldogs kept pace in first downs and third-down conversions. With better ball security and a rushing attack that gains real yardage, they have the passing production to compete in conference play.
