## Matchup Overview

Two SEC West rivals who are both still looking for their first conference win meet on a Thursday night at Kyle Field. The No. 23 Texas A&M Aggies (2-2, 0-2 SEC) host the Arkansas Razorbacks (2-2, 0-1 SEC) on Thursday, Oct. 1, and there is a lot riding on it for both teams.

Texas A&M kept its spot in the rankings despite losing its first two conference games. A third SEC loss would put the Aggies' place in the poll and their league standing at real risk. Arkansas has a chance to pick up its first conference win and a ranked road victory, which would give the Razorbacks momentum heading into October.

The last meeting set a high bar. Texas A&M won 45-42 at Arkansas on October 17, 2025, and the two offenses combined for 87 points. The numbers from this season suggest the scoreboard could stay busy again. Arkansas' top three offensive producers combine for 477.9 yards per game, and Texas A&M's top three combine for 434.0.

## Keys to the Game

**Arkansas: Let KJ Jackson set the pace.** KJ Jackson leads everyone in this game at 231.8 yards per game. Arkansas' clearest path to a road upset is to let Jackson dictate the tempo and put the Aggies on their heels early. A fast start would also take some energy out of the Kyle Field crowd.

**Arkansas: Keep the balance with Gavin Rush and Chris Marshall.** Arkansas doesn't depend on one player. Gavin Rush adds 135.8 yards per game and Chris Marshall adds 110.3, which gives the Razorbacks three players averaging at least 110 yards. If Rush and Marshall both reach their averages, Texas A&M can't key on Jackson alone.

**Texas A&M: Get production from both Tyler White and Marcel Reed.** Two players carry most of the Aggies' offense. Tyler White averages 187.5 yards per game and Marcel Reed averages 184.5, a combined 372.0. That is nearly identical to the 367.6 yards per game from Arkansas' top pair of Jackson and Rush. Texas A&M needs both White and Reed near their averages to keep pace.

**Texas A&M: Get more from Rueben Owens II.** Rueben Owens II averages 62 yards per game, the lowest of the six featured players. Arkansas' third option, Marshall, averages 110.3. If Owens can close part of that 48.3-yard gap, Texas A&M's offense becomes much harder to defend.

## Key Matchups

**KJ Jackson (231.8 YPG) vs. Tyler White (187.5 YPG)**
This is a matchup between the top producers on each side. Jackson averages 44.3 more yards per game than White, which is the biggest edge Arkansas has in the featured stats. If White keeps pace with Jackson, Texas A&M removes the Razorbacks' main advantage.

**Gavin Rush (135.8 YPG) vs. Marcel Reed (184.5 YPG)**
The edge flips here. Reed averages 48.7 more yards per game than Rush, so the Aggies' second option outproduces the Razorbacks' second option by a wide margin. That offsets most of Jackson's advantage over White and makes this pairing important to the final result.

**Chris Marshall (110.3 YPG) vs. Rueben Owens II (62 YPG)**
Arkansas has better production from its third option. Marshall's 110.3 yards per game give the Razorbacks a 48.3-yard edge over Owens. In a game that could be as close as last year's three-point finish, that extra production could decide some important drives.

**Top pair vs. top pair: Jackson and Rush (367.6) vs. White and Reed (372.0)**
The two lead duos are separated by 4.4 yards per game. When the top-end production is that close, the difference will likely come from the supporting players and from which offense finishes its possessions.

## Players to Watch

**Arkansas: KJ Jackson — 231.8 yards per game**
Jackson is the top producer in this game and the reason Arkansas can win at Kyle Field. His average is 44.3 yards ahead of any Texas A&M player, and the Razorbacks' offense runs through him. If Jackson goes well past his average, Arkansas has a real chance at its first SEC win.

**Texas A&M: Marcel Reed — 184.5 yards per game**
White has the higher average for the Aggies, but Reed's matchup is the one Texas A&M can exploit most. His 48.7-yard edge over Rush is the Aggies' largest advantage among the head-to-head pairings. If Reed plays at his average or better and White does his part, Texas A&M's top two should outproduce Arkansas' top two.

## Prediction

The numbers point to another close game. Arkansas has the best individual producer in Jackson and more depth thanks to Marshall's 110.3 yards per game. Texas A&M's White-Reed pairing slightly outproduces Jackson and Rush, and the Aggies are at home at Kyle Field.

The pick is Texas A&M. Reed's advantage over Rush cancels out Jackson's advantage over White, and home field gives the Aggies a slight edge in a game that should go down to the final possessions. Arkansas' three-player depth will keep the Razorbacks close throughout, and a score similar to last season's 45-42 finish would not be surprising.

**Prediction: Texas A&M 34, Arkansas 31**
